Spinal Surgery Tomorrow!

Yes it's me! Of course it is, who else goes on about their back problems as much as me Wink

Just got a call from neurosurgeon's secretary - tomorrow! Pleased, as I didn't take the last offer. Nervous - as it's really really happening. Scared, as the children don't know and not much time to prepare them, and what if it goes wrong. Panicking as the bedroom is a mess, our new bed doesn't arrive til next week, no freshly cooked food in freezer as we planned! But, place isn't looking too horrendous, have offers of help with the children from lost of people, DH is not due to work til the weekend anyway, so possibly he can still do that if we can get someone around to look after them, if not, he is only going to miss a couple of days, then off monday, and kids in school/nursery all day til 5:30pm on tuesday and wednesday.

I feel all flustered.

What do I need to take with me? I am staying in overnight, but, as long as it all goes well, should be out thursday.

Just a quick update as on phone and. I keep making mistakes!

All gone great, remarkably pain free in legs his expected pressure pain on back but really bearable. I do know this largely due to my pca (morphine clicky thing). Went in first at 8:30am. Literally no messing. Got out of bex to use commode at about 3pm. Apparantly that is good progress so quickly.

I have a great view of countryside (window seat) and a water bed!!

Off for some sleep.

Thank you my lovely mumsnetter friends Thanks

Pavlov I'm so pleased to read this - you may remember me being worried on your last thread that your DH would keep on persuading you to postpone!

Have a good night's sleep :)

Great news.

Please, please, please make sure you listen to the restrictions you are given by the doctors, I did too much after mine and ended up back in for 7 weeks!

Just seen this - fantastic fantastic news! Take it easy, make sure you see a physio and keep on top of your painkillers. How long are you staying in for? After my open discectomy my con recommended I stayed for an extra day/night and it made all the difference - I felt that little bit better before I went home and faced the family:). PM me if you want/need any other details or how I feel 6 months on :)

I can't sleep. Grr. Not in pain. Well manageable just can't get comfy, noisy etc. I have eye mask but ear plugs won't stay in!

I had microdiscectomy! Yey. I didn't realise. But they confirmed this aftenoon and I guess that's why I feel good? Little bit of leg pain but nothing like before. Neuro said it may be up and down and I night think its ereturning but that's normal and doesn't mean orchard. Will just a bit of time to settle.

downton I will keep you posted. Pm me if you to ask anything as I go through recovery.

I will respond more fully tomorrow but I will take all advice seriously Nd follow.
Ali Dh has been fab. He spent ages sorting bedroom yesterday as it was still messy, right down to clearing a draw next to bed for snacks and meds. Didn't try to persuade me against this time!

Will they let you home today Pavlov ? It's so hard sleeping in noisy hospitals isn't it.

How are you feeling this morning? Are you able to lie on your back or are you on your side? It's been nearly 12 months since I could lie flat on my back.

Hi downton I feel good! Sore back and hurts to move but its bearable 'getting well' pain if that makes sense. Leg pain better but not gone but lower level. Think i will feel it later though when my flicker is taken taken away!

Been on my back! And able to sit up too. Not on my own but with the button raising the headrest thing.

I am coming home today but they said a minute ago as they did handover 'you're hoping to go home lateru today?' (Day nurse) and I was like 'I am going home!' She raised her eyes and said 'well we will monitor your mobility for a while first and see ho2 you are without they best not change their mind!
Seeing physio team this morning and think they make decision though.

But all good. I am

Pavlov, that's great! So pleased for you!

Cider - saw osteopath and physio. Osteopath was helpful and knowledgable but has told me that there's not much he can do at this acute stage. Need just a little improvement, then he should be able to speed my recovery a great deal. Chose osteopath over chiro after friend's advice.

That all sounds really promising for you.

I know what you mean about the "getting better" pain, it has to be preferable to the chronic pain of the "don't know when this is ever going to get better" type!
