HELP! ANYONE KNOWS WHAT IS THIS? COULD IT BE AN EMERGENCY?

Ds had a high fever this morning while at nursery, which went down with calpol. In the afternoon the fever came by, but he was willing to eat, so I wasn't too worried. Thought was just a cold. However, when I went to give him the bath I noticed all around his genital areas a really heavy rash, looking almost blister like. It appear out of nowhere, so I'm pretty sure is not just a rash. Is mostly on his willy and scrotum. I put a lot of cream and thought I would take him to the doc in the Am. However, he woke up within an hour, and is very upsett and is unwilling to nurse. His lips seemed to be a little swollen and his certainly has mouth disconfort. Can this be anything serious? Should I panick and take him to see the docs tonight!

sorry.. he is 11 months...
I rang the GP and they are not willing to commit one way or the other (they never do for babies!)

NHS Direct will ask a load of questions and then advise you. Is your instinct that he's very ill?

I guess I'll just go the NHS clinic. I was hoping someone had some idea what this was though... I found the GPs in our local one pretty useless...

If he has a high temp give Calpol again (if it's long enough since he last had it) and take his clothes off.

I wouldnt bother with nhs direct. They cant diagnose. I would phone out of hours gp now.

NHS are likely to just suggest A&E anyway IME. Might be worth heading up there and having triage check him out. Or do you have a 24 hour doctors place?

I was very panicked because I couldn't calm him down and he didn't want to nurse, which is most unusual. But I turned the TV on to see if that distracted him and it seems to do calm him down...Thus, confused!!!

if it was me and my instict was that he was unwell but iu was still a bit uncertain, i would ring NHS direct and if they were no joy then either a and e or ring out of hours gp

It's really hard for us to say without seeing him, if you're worried I do agree with the others, go to A&E and see what they say. Don't panic, it's not that we think it sounds terrible or anything, it's just probably worth erring on the side of caution. come back and tell us what they say.

Right. called the after hours GP they will see him. I guess is always better to be sure than sorry! Tanks!
Can I still ask if this symptoms sounds familiar to anyone out there? The only things similar I see when I search the net is hand-and-moth disease (coxsackie) or herpes. One is nothing the other terrible?!?!

Have you taken his temperature? What is it?

Baby nurofen is good for temps. But I think only 3 hours after the last dose of calpol

coxsackie I know is no big deal...

His temp is 38 now, four after his last calpol.

I would still go if gp suggested it but honestly, 38 is fine, it's only a bit over normal and sometimes a fever is just them fighting something off (but am not a dr!)

You don't need to leave three hours between Nurofen and Calpol,it just makes alternating the two easier and then you are never far from the next dose of something.

I don't think it sounds like my definition of an emergency but you do sound panicked so for your peace of mind,I think he needs to see someone.I don't think any decent doctor should begrudge seeing a baby in pain,uncomfortable with a temp,not feeding properly and with an upset,worried Mummy.

If you are going to A&E,go soon,it's Friday night.

I do panick easily with the kids health Blush
Dh took him to the Gp (precisely because of the above).
Hopefully I'll be reporting soon that it was nothing!

Just to let you know... DH rang me back and GP thinks is just a really bad yeast infection, combined with some independent viral/cold infection.
