he has stuck a playmobile cannonball up his nose!
he wouldn't go to sleep so we let him stay up , he was playing on the floor and then we noticed he was getting fidgety and picking his nose.dh instantly knew what he ahd done.
he's had to take him alone cos ds1 is asleep in bed and has school tomorrow.my friend round the corner is out so can't sit for me.

alternately very worried and finding it funny.
i'm sure my life is being messed with by some jeremy beadle esque deity..

I do hope your ds2 is OK alexsmum, but thanks for the laugh!

misdee · 22/05/2006 22:36

oh dear. its making me laugh but oh dear.

i remember when dd1 shoved a load of toothpaste in her ear, i took her to a and e in fits of laughter. Grin

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 22:36

so anyone medical-how will it be removed?

OP posts:
jampots · 22/05/2006 22:36

ah we had this about 5 years ago. The doctor had to tweezer it out with the longest pointiest pair of tweezers you've ever seen!! On the good side it didnt hurt and didnt bleed.

The following year he decided to put 10p in his mouth though

Hope he's ok - im sure he will be

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 22:38

he's only 2Sad he's going to be so scared.
it's exactly the right size to go up the top bit.

Dd had a raw pea removed from up her nose about a year ago; allegedly it "fell upwards, Mummy" Grin

They widened her nostril with a funnel, then used tweezers and a long, thin needle to manoeuvre it out - the nurse had a job keeping a straight face ... and dd wanted to eat the pea afterwards!

lisalisa · 22/05/2006 22:42

alexmummy = my friend's ds did exactly this with exactlya playmobil cannonball too! they tweezered it out and friend said ds didn't cry too much . It must come out straightaway though or can cause infection.
Try not to worry - your ds won't remember it in one months' time.

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 22:43

i lay him across my knee and had a look.i could see the bugger but there was no way i could remove it myself.he kept saying 'it's fine, it's fine'-blatantly unfine!

What is it about noses? I did an acorn or something like that - still remember the enormous mingled relief & pain on blowing it out - and my niece did a bus ticket (of all things). The bus ticket was in there a while and ended up very grisly.

Bink · 22/05/2006 22:46

um - lisalisa - I've remembered mine for 41 years now

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 22:55

so how long do you reckon they'll be there?

and is anyone else unable to get on msn tonight or is it just me?

OP posts:
lisalisa · 22/05/2006 23:02

Really Bink - must have been traumatic for you. Alexmum - they try and prioritise young children but in our A&E I have waited a few hours just to be seen expecially with something "non uergent". Hope you don't have to wait too long.

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 23:04

wish i could have gone alongSad

My msn is working fine :) ([email protected] if you want to add me)

Hope you hear from dh soon

Blu · 22/05/2006 23:06

My friend was smelling a peanut (!?) which went the same way as your cannonblaa, Alexmum.

Hope all is going well - has DH called you?

jampots · 22/05/2006 23:07

alexmum - im apparently showing as offline despite the fact that ive just been having a convo with someone on msn.

When we took ds to a&e with his ball they actually sent him home and asked us to go to the childrens unit the next day. Obviously I made him sleep sitting up next to me in case it dislodged and went down the back of his throat - which obviously it didnt and the risk is extremely small

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/05/2006 23:10

you seem to be showing online again now Jampots

controlfreaky2 · 22/05/2006 23:12

when only 2 1/2 (v articulate) ds2 kept saying he had "alien up my nose". had no idea what he was on about and cldnt see anything but he kept poking it and complaining.... next day he did huge sneeze and little almond came shooting out of nose... it really did look like alien face! he said "told you mummy". hope all goes ok.

Bink · 22/05/2006 23:12

I think I remember it because it was all rather intriguing and exciting (and a hugely odd sensation), lisalisa - not traumatic at all! I do hope alexsmum's ds feels the same (but not enough to repeat the event, of course).

brimfull · 22/05/2006 23:15

we still talk about one of my brothers sticking a dinky car up his nose!

Mercy · 22/05/2006 23:18

alexsmum, dd stuck a small stone up her nose when she was 2.5. We were seen fairly quickly at A & E.

The nurse suggested the 'parents kiss' to remove the stone. You put a finger over the CLEAR nostril to close it and then blow HARD into the child's mouth. It may take 3 or 4 attempts but the object should shoot down the blocked nostril. They will then check for any bleeding.

Our GP wouldn't touch her and A & E wanted to send us to an ENT hospital. We refused to be sent on to a third lot so the nurse told us this method which cna be done safely at home before consulting any doctors. Obviously if it doesn't work you should contact a doctor.

Hope ds is home soon!

chapsmum · 22/05/2006 23:20

basically they will get him to cover the unblocked nostill and get your dh to blow in his mouth, it should pop right out!!

chapsmum · 22/05/2006 23:21

sorry mercy x posts

alexsmum · 22/05/2006 23:36

i hope they get dh do that.sounds less traumatic than big tweezers! he hasn't called.just wondering about calling him or the a&ee unit
