I hate mouth ulcers; I feel so miserable

I can't eat, I can't even sleep

I've had to take 2 co-codamol to enable me to eat a sandwich & I have no appetite

I can't even clean my teeth properly

I agree they're grim - poor you.

I've found that the only thing which works form me is to wet a finger, put it in the salt kit and put the neat salt on the ulcer. It hurts like buggery, but it's the most effective cure for me.

They are miserable. The new Iglu stuff is pretty good at covering them and stopping the pain for a while. Seems to help them heal a wee bit quicker. And salt water gargles.

Salt works well

I only have 3 atm

1 is at the back of my tongue & is about 8mm across
2 is top lip (right) & about 12mm
3 is bottom lip (right) & nearly 18mm with a big split

& my sandwich is cold and uneaten

when I was having chemo and got awful mouth ulcers, my GP suggested two soluble dispirin dissolved in half a glass of water, - give it a really good swill round in your mouth, then spit out. repeat every 4 hours. - It did help a bit, - hope yours get better soon.

Ugh, they are horrible. I had them everywhere when I was having chemotherapy, all along the gums and under my tongue, it was agony. Corsodyl mouthwash helped, and soluble paracetamol.

Corsodyl was recommended to my dd by a consultant for her mouth ulcers (result of a life-threatening disease). Although she says most things we rely on for everyday solutions, like painkillers, don't help, she swears by corsodyl. I also second the soluble painkillers, but do give them a good swill round your mouth before swallowing. (He did say to dilute it though as it can stain your teeth long term.)

Right, get yourself to holland and Barrett tomorrow and get some lysine it is an amino acid and is a fecking miracle worker, seriously get it and try.

Dd used to get mouth ulcers really frequently, 2 or 3 days of the supplement and they clear up.

I would agree your body has some sort of mineral/ hormonal deficicinecy and that is why you get them. It can take a while to sort out what it is. When I was overcome with them one thing that worked for me after trying loads of things from the chemist an reading lots of research was just keep your mouth shut and the ulcer covered in saliva, apparently exposure to air prolongs it

SLS free toothpaste seems to be working so far for us, although it's only been about 3 months. The whole family gets them, but only one of us has had one since we changed toothpaste.

Also loads of B vitamins helped clear them up once they're there. Sorry if you've already tried these, ulcers are hideous.

Ice lollies might help with the immediate discomfort .

i can sympathise with you, i had an awful outbreak over xmas, i too recommend the mouthwash, also, i took a multi vitamin to boost my own health, drank through a straw to avoid contact with the worst affected area, stopped talking as much as saliva is your bodies own natural defence and it evapoates when you speak and lastly, i tried to get more sleep, which was pretty hard with a little baby but it was the single thing that helped the most. Talk to your gp about persistent ulcers or if it is over 1cm long.

L lysine as above and a b vit too, nothing short of miraculous here.

if you keep getting them see your GP can be a sign of underlying deficiency eg Vit B12

I got them horrendously when PG and found corsodyl very effective

Another vote for Lysine and vit B .

And visit to GP .

And get the alchohol free Cordsyl as it doesn't sting nearly as much .
And remember not to use it just before or after using toothpaste as apparently this stops it working .

You poor thing.

I remember having them at work for a week and sitting at my desk crying. Always brought on by stress for me.

we've just discovered OralMedic - dh buys it online. Incredible - it does sting badly for a few seconds (unless you catch the ulcer right at the beginning) but then instant cover/relief, and mine just went away. I swear, I caught it at the start and it never developed at all - just went away

But I shall try the Lysine for prevention - dd2 is getting them too now, as she is run down from colds, and she is only 6

I assume you get them regularly? Ever mentioned them to your GP? They can be an indication of problems with systemic inflammation. Any other health issues?

My dentist recommended a toothpaste from Australia (I think) called Squigle. You can buy it online, its about £6.50 per tube. I'm on my second tube and I haven't had any mouth ulcers since. I thought it sounded a bit iffy with a name like Squigle but its doing the trick so far.

I have CFS, FM, IBS & have had investigations for RA, Chronhs, IBD, diabetes

Alum is a pickling spice. Horrible tasting. If you put a bit of it on the sore, it should heal up overnight.

Have you been investigated for Behcets?

I have RA and get them all the bloody time, so I have a lot olf sympathy. The only thing that helps my great big, gaping sores are prednisolone meltlets. You press them against each ulcer and bliss....!
