She fell off of her rocker. Landed on her face, her front teeth went thru her top lip and part of it is still stuck between her teeth. Her little button nose is flat and swollen and she looks a mess. Spent 2 1/2 hrs at A&E and I feel awful and cry everytime I look at her.. She's 14mths... Has this happened to anyone else, and will her lip just work it's way out like the Dr said? She was so good and made no fuss. I feel like shite mummy no1

Poor DD :( And poor you :(

I remember DD, when pretty young, having nasty fall and ending up with a black eye and thick, bleeding lip. I was terrified for her. But she did survive and came out the other side looking as beautiful as ever.

Serendippity · 16/04/2006 21:11

Oh honey poor you, i'm not suprised you feel traumatized. Listen, shit happens and it doesn't mean you are a crap mummy.
Your dd will be fine it's just bumps and bruises.
Stop beating yourself up!
xx

Janh · 16/04/2006 21:13

Aww, poor her and you Sad. Please don't feel shite though.

DD1 did something similar when she was about 18 months - was standing on her scoot-along thing, it went out from under her and she landed on her face on a concrete floor. Triangular section of lip almost cut out, bloody nose and huge fat lip for days.

It did get better but every time she fell on her face for the next couple of years it would open up again, so be ready for that with yours.

beansprout · 16/04/2006 21:14

Ds put his top teeth through his lip yesterday at the park. V bruised and swollen today. Seems like a good reason to make an extra fuss of him Smile. Hope your dd feels better soon.

GDG · 16/04/2006 21:14

Awww poor you, don't feel bad - this week in our house:

Ds3 (19 months) trapped 2 finger in teh door - quite badly, very squashed and then swelled up like sausages

Ds2 (3) ran into corner of table in cafe and now has huge cut and black eye

Ds3 (5) today jumped off arm of the sofa and landed on his shoulder - hasn't been able to do much all day and dh took him to A&E - nothing broken but he's in pain

So I'm number one bad mummy y'see!

GDG · 16/04/2006 21:15

btw - I did not witness sofa jumping, dh was in charge (while I slept in till midday after rollin gin at 3am - hmmm, doesn't sound good does it?Grin)

AllieBongo · 16/04/2006 21:16

thanks all. I think she was standing on it too the little monkey. she obviously thought it would be better to break the fall with her face rather than hands..

spacecadet · 16/04/2006 21:20

when they are little, they dont feel fear when they fall, so they dont put their hands out to break their fall.

cod · 16/04/2006 21:21

GDG · 16/04/2006 21:21

cataloguequeen · 16/04/2006 21:21

if its any consolation dd2 managed to get up stairs when someone left the stair gate open, she was 10 months at the time, and tumbled all the way back down..i felt like a really bad mum, she was all covered in carpet burns.

HonorMatopoeia · 16/04/2006 21:24

Oh Allie, sounds like a horrible experience for you both :(
She'll soon be back to her gorgeous self I'm sure hon. Dd (also 14 months) threw herself over on our gravel drive yesterday - nowhere near as bad as your event but left her with a bit of a 'yucky' face. It's hard not to feel bad I know but..as Dh said, they're so wilful and exploratory at this stage you'd have to wrap them in bubbble wrap to stop things like this happening.

GDG · 16/04/2006 21:24

Sad sd - you feel rubbish don't you - this thread's making me feel better!

AllieBongo · 16/04/2006 21:25

"they say all these nasty accidents happen in the home, what are the mums doing" words of wisdom from my poisonous nan..

Thanks for all your kind words. I'm off to bed!

hiya ali, you poor soul. sounds awful.
what have you got for her???
and what did they say about her nose?

AllieBongo · 16/04/2006 21:33

hi chaps. i will go to bed. Her nose isn't broken. We saw the first dr who said the lip was stuck and she wasn't sure what to do as she hadn't seen it before. They gave her calpol. Senior dr came in at 11 and he had a good look again, up her nose and in her mouth. He said to give her cold food and keep clean as high risk of infection in mouth. He said to give calpol and no need for anti-biotics. then we went home, no other instructions. The swelling will go down and her lip will sort itself apparently
