Ok well done you and I'm going for my first one in years Blush tommorow. A bit nervous but understand it's a necessasary evil.

bourneville · 06/04/2006 20:06

oh my god i have never ever had one!! I had a severe medical phobia before getting pg and since having dd i no longer have the phobia but have just been so crap at gearing myself up to get it done ! I'm on the pill and I HATE going to renew it cos the doc always bugs me about it....

waterfalls · 06/04/2006 20:07

Had mine 3 weeks ago, had no choice, I was being stalked and harrased by expatinscotland Grin

starlover · 06/04/2006 20:08

no i have never had one either

GDG · 06/04/2006 20:09

Yes. And I'm just working on a study now about cervical cancer and I'll never put off a smear test again - cervical cancer is soooooooo avoidable.

SomethingAboutMary · 06/04/2006 20:10

I had no choice because i was being stalked & harrassed by the doctors surgery!

I really needed to have mine because i had an abnormal one & never went to have the follow up because i was to scared Blush

So glad i have had it done, i did not like it but its like a massive weight lifted of my shoulders, just needed to keep my fingers crossed that the results are normal otherwise i need to take another step of bravery Smile

I had mine last week. Hopefully thats it for another 3 years.

One question though.....why do they always ask if you are OK right in the middle of it?! Can you be OK in that situation/position? FFS what do they expect you to say ? "Never been better, fine and dandy...in fact I might come back again next week to go through it all again"

I knew someone whose results got mixed up with someone else's, meaning she was told something was wrong when there wasn't! Shock Has shaken my trust somewhat.

lou33 · 06/04/2006 20:21

yes, i hate them too, but my mum died of cervical cancer

blueteddy · 06/04/2006 20:25

I hate them, but I always go along as soon as I get a reminder, as I had an abnormal quite a few years back & I am almost over cautious with them now.

me23 · 06/04/2006 20:26

I've never had one either! I'm 24, I was sent a letter from doctors recently ive gotta make appoinment I know.

joanna4 · 06/04/2006 23:37

I have booked for next thursday I am a bit squincy about it as my mate is the practice nurse and it doesnt feel right somhow.Anyway she says we will have a good old goss while she is on with it so I reminded her it wasnt a social call lol.

georginarf · 06/04/2006 23:41

Yes!

And i tell you, this one was done by a gynae who I saw for one of my hospital check ups and it was about 15 times quicker then when a GP has done it. But everyone, do not put it off, get it done. No one (well except wierdies) likes having a smear but it's really not that bad and well worth it. GET IT DONE

I loved it when there were MN fanny monitors.

GDG · 07/04/2006 08:59

Bumping this because it's very important - know quite a few friends, my age (early 30s) who have had abnormal cells removed. Sooo easy to avoid cervical cancer...

Frenchgirl · 07/04/2006 10:08

got my results really fast: 2 weeks!!!
