Catj's dd4

chjlly · 31/03/2006 22:43

On Tuesday afternoon catj's dd4 was rushed to hospital after the hv (yes one did something useful!) wasn't happy about her colour and breathing. When they got to the local hospital they started tests and managed get hold of a cardiologist from Southampton General (luckily he was doing a clinic and hadn't quite left the car park!) He then confirmed that there was a heart condition and requested that they were transfered to Southampton (It has one of the best cardiac units in the country) they were finally transfered at about 2am!
On wednesday Seren was diagnosed with complex pulmonary Atresia. One of her valves has not opened and she has a hole in her heart. She may have to have a shunt put in but at the moment the doctors aren't rushing to do it. She is stable and has been taken off a ventilater but is on cpap. She even had a little protest tonight when she was given an oral drug and it doesn't taste very nice!
Catj is fine - she is a laid back person and doesn't see the point in getting stressed out as she know it doesn't do anyone any good!

any more news catj or chjlly?

catj · 03/04/2006 22:33

Hi. I've come home for the night (not sure if it was the right thing to do as all her things are here and I keep getting upset thinking that she should be here too but its nice to be with dh and the other 3 girls). I find it difficult to update as things are constantly changing. She is stable but a bit grumpy at the moment so they are giving her a sedative to help her sleep and when routine obs etc need to be done the nurses are trying to do it all together then let her rest for as long as possible. Its a bit of a waiting game but all the cardiologists etc have a big meeting on Tuesdays so hopefully we will know more tomorrow. She appears to have some sort of respiratory virus which is complicating things but I did get to have another cuddle yesterday and I tried to feed her too but I think she found that a bit stressful & didn't manage. Fortunately I am expressing gallons of milk and she is being given more than they would as it was thought that maybe she was hungry and of course that doesn't help if you're feeling grotty anyway. Thank you all for your thoughts-I am so glad I found Mumsnet its been a real help.

I don't know that I'll get much sleep tonight with 2 little darlings who like to get into our bed in the middle of the night!

catj - hope the surgeons meeting goes well today.

As I said further down my dd has heart problems and I have two others too. I found it very hard to leave them to be with her and vice versa. Grumpy is good Smile. Seren will be being very well looked after at Sounthampton.

hope your dd is ok, you (and your dd) are in terrific hands at Southampton.
We had dd in and out of there as a baby - our man was Dr Tony Salmon - the enire unit is amazing, you will get tons of support and help.
