Oh, dear. Choclab, why aren't you on ADs yet? Seriously.

Ovulation pain is very common. I get that, more of a bloating/tenderness plus sex can make me cramp (during one day a month). Some women get one-sided pain, it depends. There is no reason to think you have ovarian cancer. The need to find a most terrible diagnosis for any minor ache is your HA speaking, it's not logical or reasonable to do so.

Stop bothering the doctors, or rather, use the appointment to ask for ADs and therapy referral.

choclab · 27/08/2012 09:33

Sad feeling so low ... alone with this anxiety , I'm truly convinced i have this oc , and won't stop till i have tests to prove me wrong ..its how it works with the HA ... will keep going round in my head till i get reassurance ...cant seem to shift it at the mo ....

i had AD a while back but to frightened to take as poss side effects ...

had CBT help and seen councillor privately as no help on NHS ... was expensive and helped at time but can't afford it now ....still there from time to time ...never really seems to go for long ....im good for months at time , till something bothers me ...skin moles , ( i get checked every 6 months by clinic ) (for my own peace of mind ) IBS, every day checking the loo 9 had tests in past ), mouth dentist every 3/6 months checking , ovaries well now here i am wanting them checked ..

sad i know ...Sad

Choclab, you're not alone, there are many sufferers of Health Anxiety on here. I know how frightening it can be and how it is impossible to switch off. I am on my second course of ADs for health anxiety and whilst there are side-effects, I would rather have them than the terrifying thought that I'm about to drop dead from something or other (and you know that if its not one thing it will be something else!!).

I sympathise with the situation at your doctors but if it is stopping you living your life you do need to get help. If a doctor isn't sympathetic and ask to see someone else. I ended up with an emergency appointment at the end of one day as I could not function, I had got myself so worked up and convinced myself I had something awful (as you have described).

I know you have had CBT - I have a good book that I look at most days to keep me thinking straight (as well as ADs).

www.amazon.co.uk/Introducing-Cognitive-Behavioural-Therapy-CBT/dp/1848312547/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1346105837&sr=1-9

It has specific references and help for HA. MIght not be any good for you but just trying to think of anything that might help.

Please try and get a doctors appt soon, tell them what you are worried about, and how it is effecting your life and that you have coped with it for a long time. There should be some help for you. Good luck Smile

choclab · 28/08/2012 07:51

I am ok at the moment, seem to be able to cope normally with any health issues I have - I've been taking Citalopram for about 10 weeks now and I'm sure it has helped. But earlier in June I was a mess with worrying about myself, usually cancer but other things too. I usually worry about one thing and then see the doctor and I feel ok about it, then I start worrying about something else. Always have various symptoms, aches & pains.. My son had a health scare in early June and this was the trigger for me..once I'd stopped worrying about him I got paranoid about myself.. Anyway, I really hope you feel better soon, it is miserable. Good luck xx Smile

choclab · 28/08/2012 08:30

thanks , good to hear you are better at the moment , hope your son is on the mend now too .

have had citalopram to to try but was to frightened to take ...

CustardQueen · 28/08/2012 18:20

Hi choclab, sorry been at work all day. How was your appt with doc? At least something is being done. Are you still as worried as this morning?

choclab · 28/08/2012 19:08

hello CQ :-) ,

A little better i think Hmmshe said she doesn't think is OC , but wants to do this blood test ,if comes back high will take next step of a scan , but she not expecting it to Hmm she thinks just a bad month of ovulation , felt my tummy which was pain free , said , as bloating is less in morning and more at night , thinks its more lightly my IBS , and anx making symptoms worse .

so i managed to get one booked for morning ...

then see what comes back ..

hope you are ok

CustardQueen · 28/08/2012 21:43

That is good news then, that she is not that concerned. I think they sometimes arrange test more for the patient, my old doctor used to call them theraputic tests.

I had a bloated tummy that went on for weeks and weeks and my doctor wasn't concerned about it. It was all down to the anxiety and as I started taking the ADs and trying to focus on other things it just gradually went away over a matter of weeks. Anxiety can make so many symptoms worse and when you start to focus on them your mind plays tricks on you.

I try really hard now, when I notice a new 'symptom' to give it at least a week before I do anything about it, ie see the doctor. More often than not the 'symptom' has gone.

Good luck tomorrow, try as much as possible to find other things to focus on Smile

choclab · 28/08/2012 21:53

thanks , CQ ,

sounds like you know where I'm coming from with this , thank you , yes once bloods done tomorrow will try keep busy till i get results , i hope friday ..

with the HA , starts off in my head as a niggle then goes n and on and i guess I'm feeding it when i google and search for reassurance and answers ...and so it goes on till i reach a answer ..

may i ask how old you are I'm just 40 , but i think the older i get the worse I'm becoming Sad

i hope i will be better soon

CustardQueen · 28/08/2012 21:57

Just 40 too! Have always had HA but definately worse since I had children..

choclab · 28/08/2012 22:08

welcome to the 40 club ..

yes me to, with the children , mine started about 5 years ago i had a cyst on my hand ...convinced bad as seen in papers and magazines about lumps etc ...then got very bad tummy , stress , but convinced was BC , and so the spiral started ... Sad and so did self checking , looking up diagnosing etc ...and so it goes on ...

i have been struggling from time to time , and this is a bad patch again ...
hopefully will get through it and will try to seek some more help ..maybe should re consider the Ads again ..

sorry for big waffle on ...thanks for listening though

OP posts:
choclab · 29/08/2012 10:26

got to wait till Mon/Tues for results Shock Sad i will call friday just in case i think !!

still trying to clutch onto the positive that the doc said unlikely to be OC and not expecting the result to come back high ...if she was very concerned surly wouldn't give false hope or would do scan referral at same time ..right ??

god what a mess i am !!! someone slap me ....im annoying myself now ...Sad

OP posts:
CustardQueen · 29/08/2012 11:05

I know its so hard, but just try very hard to think that you've done what you can for now, you've had had medical advice and now just need to get on with your life - easy to type not so easy to do. Did you talk to doc about ADs, sounds as if you're struggling with the anxiety on a daily basis. Do you have any family/friends you can talk to, to share the load? Just remember what the doc said - she didn't think you had anything to worry about. So dont worry until you have something to worry about!! Hope you have a good day.. Smile

choclab · 29/08/2012 11:48

Thanks CQ , i know you make sense ....

i didn't talk about Ads as was in a state just talking about everything els Sad

i don't talk to anyone as my DH doesn't really get the whole HA thing TBH ..so i don't tell him much ...

friends well no don't bother them either ...

just goes round in my head ...

I'm out in garden now trying to take my mind of it , working next 3 days so that will distract me i hope ..

just keep self checking today ..looking at my tummy from different angles ...

thanks for listening

Choclab, I'm glad that you got the ok on your blood results.

I don't know if this helps, but I found that from my mid 40s I began to get increasing mid cycle problems - bloating, aching, and also (TMI alert) additional discharge and a raging libido. As I approached the menopause it got worse until I had these symptoms for nearly 2 weeks out of 4.

When my periods stopped, the symptoms disappeared completely.

choclab · 05/09/2012 14:51

thanks OHF ..
