I used to get that quite severely too. It has a medical name, 'Mittelschmertz'. I don't think it's usually anything to worry about. Mine just seemed to spontaneously resolve.

choclab · 24/08/2012 17:24

I have IBS and it gets really bad at ovulation. I have it today actually and its so painful and I am running to the loo every 10 mins (sorry TMI) I have had scans found nothing

Cailleach · 24/08/2012 18:21

Mine's got really bad in the last two or three years; had tests, nothing wrong though. I also have Loo Issues, and spend a couple of days each month feeling like I'm carrying a brick around in me lower abdomen.

Fun, innit?

Have always know when I am ovulating, from way back in my teens. I have noticed that for the last couple of years since I had DC three, it has been getting more and more noticeable. Sometimes my tummy is so tender I hesitate to walk properly as it is so painful on the side that I am ovulating. It only lasts about twelve hours. I am nearly forty two and I tend to think that it is my body's last ditch attempts at getting pregnant again.

chocoluvva · 24/08/2012 20:48

I think if it was OC that had got to the stage of giving you pain , the pain would be present all (Or most of) the time IYSWIM. Googe "ovulation pain".

choclab · 24/08/2012 20:51

Well, compare it to having a very bad cough and yet not having lung cancer. If that helps.

Honestly bloating is very, very common and ovulation pain is widely recognised.
Or a severe headache (brain tumour).
OC is most common in women over the age of 45-50. Can you go for a walk or some other exercise this afternoon to take your mind off this and hopefully alleviate your symptoms.
Hope you feel better very soon :)

Metalhead · 25/08/2012 16:15

I don't know anything about OC, but since having DC I also get what I think is ovulation pain. Basically two weeks before my period arrives I get about 2 days of bloating, upset stomach and really bad lower back pain.

If you're worried see your GP, that's what they're there for!

choclab · 25/08/2012 16:16

Thank you for reply , i just been out feel a little calmer , i haven past suffered with health anx , and now feeling similar once more .

I am going to make appt with a doctor , i think to talk my concerns through , hoping its not Oc and just a bad month of ovulation and bloating and back pain ... Hmm
tummy feels better today , back pain bad but i id do (boot camp style)exercise class last night

I'm searching for reassurance from people posting , and the only way i will get that i guess is from getting checked out ....

sorry

I might be overstepping the mark here...... but can I suggest that you hold off going to your GP about the tummy trouble (unless it gets worse obviously) or use your appointment to discuss your anxiety issues?

I'm a very anxious person too, though not quite as bad as I used to be - for a looong time I didn't even realise that NOT everyone else was as negative and anxious as me. The realisation has enabled me to try to deal with it.

When I was pregnant with DC1 I was desperately worried about what the scan would show. Happily, it was fine, but then I moved on to worrying about the possibility of the baby having some undetectable condition! It's as if my brain is constantly turned on to the 'Worry Channel'!
I've found that just going ahead with things anyway or deliberately trying to ignore the worry and not act on it - for example, not phone up the school, but wait for things to sort themselves out (which they usually do!) has given me a little bit more confidence in the probability that "it'll be okay/I'll be fine/ I'll manage it/ whatever.
Are you a worrier in general or is it mostly health concerns that trouble you, Choclab?

choclab · 25/08/2012 18:45

its always health anx for me , i have been very bad in the past , list to long to write , then for some time iv been so much better , but then a trigger like the ovulation pain and bloating set me off , i googled and here i am ...

i have endometriosis and around ovulation I get terrible pains and can definately say which side/ovary its coming from...Im 45 and was diagnosed with endo 3 years ago. I get pain during my period time only puts me in bed for the day - not every month but most months.

Scans can only show so much, a lap will show everything

cupcake78 · 26/08/2012 08:47

Yep get ovulation pains, can even tell which side, bloating, sickness and headaches. If I'm lucky it goes before pmt kicks in, if not I end up insane for a week or two Smile

choclab · 26/08/2012 08:57

thanks both of you , last week was awful , such pain on left hand side , plus the usual gewy stuff sorry TMI...Hmm bloating , back ache ...

bloating seems to have settled a bit now i think , but still back ache but that could be my training i guess ..

i had full bloods done in june , so i would hope if anything bad going on may have picked up on something , but all came back normal .

shpuldnt have googled ....

CustardQueen · 26/08/2012 21:34

Choclab, I have also been where you are with health anxiety on this and many other issues. It got so bad and was effecting my life quite badly - the doctor prescribed me anti depressants for it. I would see the doctor and talk to her about all of your concerns. Googling is the worst thing you can do it..why is it that even when we all know this we still do it!! Smile

choclab · 27/08/2012 08:59

Thanks CQ , yes why do we google ......still feeling extremely anx about it all , have searched for good positive threads on it on here ..but can't find any Sad

and worried i won't be able to see any one this week , as my doctors is so bad no appt for at least 2 weeks unless an emergency have to call in first thing and they assess symptoms and then a doc calls you back to see if is an emergency or not ...
never see same doctor twice as change over staff so high , so i don't really have a doctor as such or a relationship with one ....
