The knot you can do w/webbing - I think the Brits call webbing 'tape' - and a biner, where the biner makes a little handle for your hand - is miles easier! But of course, I didn't find that out until AFTER I'd had an epic w/a prussik and then one of those old hard-core types was like, 'Why didn't you do this, silly?' and whipped out a runner - one of those sewn tape thingies - and showed me in about 10 seconds. I felt pretty dumb, needless to say. I use it as a safety on abseils b/c it's so easy to set up, you hold it in your break hand and if you accidentally weight it you don't have to go thru hell to get it off. And some abseils sort of suck to get into, especially w/a rucksack.

I love my ATC. I tried a Trango once, but I thought it sucked.

What I don't get is that I see people who tie into a biner rather than directly on their harness. They do a Figure 8 on a bite and slip the bite onto a locking biner attached to their harness.

I've heard arguments about the strength of this being fine, but it just seems weirdy to me, like those fancy harnesses that automatically double back. Guess I was just taught the old way.

Shock at the weird climbers dp taught me the old fasioned way. hanks forthe tip but prussics were the only thing alllowed in the race!!

night night!

yeah, i tie in the old fashioned way, too, thru the tie in points on the harness. i thought that's why they were there . . .

Sorry CM, yes I have been back since DS was 8 months. Coped fine actually I think! Am finding it more tiring managing alone now that DP has moved down to where we are all going! SO only doing one shift a week atm, and using lots of saved holiday too.

DS is now 16 months and I'm going back f/t next month. We'll see how it goes. Need the money. Can but try!

Flossam · 28/02/2006 22:43

how about you? You're back working aren't you? How old is your DS?

chapsmum · 28/02/2006 23:04

hey floss, last post before bedtime, I am back at work, actually enfjoying the break!! am very lucky I have cut down my hours to one shiftt per week but top it up significantly by doing two specialist agency shifts a month. Finincially I'm not that far off what I was. HAve to say find seeing things and coming home to the chap more upsetting. I find myself looking at the drug overdoses thinking god forbid that would be the chap in x years time... Its a wake up call!!!

Full time you poor thing, still I think the thought is worse, 12hour shifts are a god send!
Will be looking to hear how it goes, probably will be in touch tommorrow, night floss!
