P.M.T is really getting me down every month. It casts a black clould over my life more than it ever has before.I have always been iregular and periods lasted for 4 days at most.
Now i am every 27 days and feel so depressed and the self destruction i feels like i am in the thows of deppression. Is there anything on the market or i can do to make life for all my family more bearable

Oh...I wish I knew.
Another problem I have is to actually remember to take any pills or potions I do try.
They may work but I forget to take them....it's a vicious circle.

It's absolutely horrid, isn't it

I tried Evening Primrose Oil last month for the first time in years and it made a real difference so I'm going to keep on them every day.

Good luck! BLx

I think the biggest problem is that there is no quick fix solution. When I'm on the pill I have not problems with PMT but when I wasn't on it, I tried a number of solutions. Agnus Castus was a great help. I took the tincture and it definitely made a big difference even in the first month. Have you been to your GP?

overdraft · 14/02/2006 21:46

thinking of doing that soon but don't want to take drugs

1 x 500mg eve prim oil three times per day. Begin at beginning of cycle and makes such a difference to pain, irritability, swelling, energy levels. Good luck.

will look into that chickpea thanks

Exercise is my solution, I've always been very depressed for three / four days every month, like you say it feels awful.

I've tried all sorts of drugs but nothing works for me other than doing something physical, I'm not the sort of person who likes to exercise but if I'm having one of my bad days I run up and down my back garden, I may look a pratt but it's better than being depressed.

welshmum · 19/02/2006 16:04

i used to take evening primrose oil.....but 2 kids seems to have cleared it up

mummytosteven · 19/02/2006 16:21

going on the Pill (but not the Progestogen Only Pill) worked for me! Of course some people find Pill makes PMT worse, so you have to try it and see.

noddyholder · 19/02/2006 16:22

I found agnus astus good too

cupcakes · 19/02/2006 16:25

See your gp. Mine put me on the pill and the difference it made was wonderful. I used to get a red mist of rage and tears for about a week every month and it just lifted. Nothing else worked like this. Till I stopped to get pg .
Will def go back on afterwards.
I was on Jasmine (which reputedly doesn't make you put on weight like other brands).

Babblan · 19/02/2006 18:39

I can really recommend St John's Wort. It makes such a difference to me. In addition to Evening Promrose oil.

Elliebean · 20/02/2006 15:40

Does anyone know if you can have Agnus cactuss/St johns wort etc whilst breastfeeding? My dd is nearly 1yr and since I have reduced her breastmilk to morning and evening my PMT (bad temper& upset)seems to be lasting 10/14 days.
Dont really want to give up bf just yet any suggestions? Thanks

Mazzystar · 20/02/2006 15:40

booze and chocolate?

vitomum · 20/02/2006 15:50

Overdraft do you know why your cycle changed? i was also like you with short, irregular periods. since ds they have been much more regular but my PMT has been a lot worse. i've also been experiencing a few days of feeling really quite irrational and 'properly' depressed. i think my cycle changng post pregnancy has something to do with the fact that i have poly cytstic ovaries (have you ever been diagnosed with that?). the last 3-4 months i have made a real effort around period time to control my pco (through diet - no refined carbs or caffeine and doing some exercise). doing that has definitely improved the PMT i feel.

orangina · 20/02/2006 15:55

chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. I don't suffer too badly from it, but a friend of mine did, and these 2 sorted her out almost completely within 6 weeks.....

Mazzystar · 20/02/2006 15:59

seriously though I would definitely consider some holistic approach. acupunture has a good track record with menstrual irregularity and refelxology might also be worth a shot. i would definitely try to get some advice freom a therapist rather than experiment with supplements, they can work with you to get to a solution more quickly than trial and error.

sorry you are having such a difficult time.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/02/2006 16:07

Getting pregnant?

I do utterly sypmathise with you though. Its miserable. I found going on the pill helped marginally, but the side effects from the pill far outweighed the effects of helping the PMT.

Mistymoo · 20/02/2006 16:11

My dr always recommends vitamin B6 but I can't say if it works, because like others have said, I am not very good at remembering to take it. Although I really should try something after last month.

mrsdarcy · 08/03/2006 19:37

I'm bumping this thread becuase I have had the most horrible PMT for a few weeks. My DD is 8 months old and since having her I have had one period (when she was 6 months old). A month ago I felt as though I was going to have another period but it just hasn't happened and I am becoming psychotic with PMT Sad.

Does anyone have any suggestions in addition to the ones already posted? I'm not very good at remembering to take pills. Oh, and I'm still breastfeeding.

TIA Smile

katyrocks · 08/03/2006 21:23

vitamn B complex and a product called 'Waterfall' whch contains celery (designed to ease water retention) and other natural ingredients. It is a miracle cure for me. i never forget to take it as it has such a drastic effect on the black cloud. i start taking them one week i'm due. PMS was so bad i was getting depressed for a week before just thinking about it.... horrendous. this is the most effective remedy i have found.

katyrocks · 08/03/2006 21:27

sorry mrsd, i don't know how it would stand with bf cos i wasn't taking them then
