Cyst. Lance, squeeze using pliers, or ignore?

I've had it for about 10 years at least, it was as big as a grain of rice and use to regularly produce a stinky worm of filth, but for the last few years it's blocked totally and is now as big as a chickpea. It seems to have grown a kind of point, which when I squeeze it, feels like the tip of a pencil poking through the skin. It's not sore unless I mess with it, but I'm consumed with curiosity about what might be in there! I've squeezed with my fingers and it's just under the surface but won't go!!!

WWYD?

I concur. Swab the area with gin before and after procedure if you want to be even more antiseptic! Don't use same cotton ball each time though :)

BagofHolly · 02/03/2012 21:38

Excellent! I was worried some sensible type would tell me to leave it alone. I've taken this as official permission! Grin

The gin is a swab?! Thank goodness you clarified that! I was just about to have a big swig!

BettySuarez · 02/03/2012 21:42

Don't do it! DH had a cyst on his back for ages. We'd just get the stuff out. Then it got bad and had to have antibiotics. First lot didn't clear it up nor others . Turned out that the simple cyst had grown inwards to reach his ribs. The skin specialist also said that they can spread out like pancakes. When this happens it does need to be cut out PROPERLY.

Was that a closet bump nightsky? GrinGrinGrin

GnomeDePlume · 02/03/2012 22:02

Sorry to spoil your fun but a cyst is not a spot. It needs to be removed in its entirety otherwise it will symply refill.

NeshBugger · 02/03/2012 22:04

Nice sharp scalpel and whip it off!

But gnomedeplume, that is the point surely? How else will we get our kicks on Mumsnet Grin

BagofHolly · 02/03/2012 22:32

Stuck a needle in, nothing. Nada. It feels like a little, well, sac under the skin. The photos are disappointing and it's a bit sore. It's tricky cos it's between my boobs and hard to get purchase.

I've had one like this on the back of my neck.

You need to make a slit with a veg knife, then get an empty beer bottle, run it under the hot tap to get the glass hot. Then stick the open neck end over the cyst. It will be sucked out.

BagofHolly · 02/03/2012 23:01

How deep do you make the slit?

Viva don't make out you do it. Your bloke does it, doesn't he? The lucky bugger!

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2012 23:12

I can't reach the back of my neck so yes dh does it. He's not grateful though, moans about it.

Not sure how deep he makes it, well into the actual cyst. Problem is the stuff is so hard it's difficult to squeeze out. I've had mine for five years now, keeps coming back.
