My appt has come through for the 12th and I don't really know what to expect .

Is it as uncomfortable as it sounds ?

Will they tell me anything on the day ?

Calming vibes welcome .

My DH has, I watched. It isnt too bad, your reflexes make you move back when it first goes in.

He didnt seem in pain at all. Remeber it's a thin tube they use.

Lots of things sound worse than they really are.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/12/2011 16:08

Oh the consultant said everything looks ok while it was still in there. Didnt take long.

Libra · 02/12/2011 16:11

I had this done last month.
Felt odd and not nice but not really painful.
Was over very quickly.

The main problem was instinctive. I had to really hold myself still.

Good luck.

travellingwilbury · 02/12/2011 16:14

Thank you both

Libra did you get your results the same day too ?

Me! I had it done about 6 years ago because my voice had gone all husky for no apparent reason. It was tickly and a bit strange but not a patch on having a catheter (now that was a world of wrong). If you are calm and do as they ask it is easy and if you are good they might let you see your throat on the monitor (v cool). I had damage to my vocal chords which cleared up on it's own. DS3 (age 4) is having it done on Wednesday because his voice sounds really weird at the moment, but he is being sedated in hospital and then brought round so he can make noises for them, I would rather have it done again every day for the next year than have to watch a 4 year old do it, can't wait for Weds tea time when it's all over.

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 16:16

I had one up the nose and through to my throat. It made me want to retch and my eyes watered. I wanted to thump the doctor as he witheringly told me that children have it done all the time and are fine! But on the plus side it was quick and I got the results right then. Good luck, am sure you will be fine Smile

travellingwilbury · 02/12/2011 16:19

Very true , I am happier having it done to me than watching one of the children have it done , if he is sedated he won't remember any of it but still not nice for you to watch . Good luck for wednesday .

was horrible in a "wrong" way. Wasn't sore. I did swear and try to push her hand away Blush was a reflex thing. Was very fast and as soon as it was over that was it. and got answer right away.

Aonach · 02/12/2011 16:24

I had one passed at an ENT appointment a few years ago to investigate rhinitis and loss of sense of smell. I did not know it was going to happen and to be honest it was fine. They numb you with anesthetic spray and ask you to swallow as they pass it. If you remain relaxed it is over very quickly.

Good luck.

lostinwales · 02/12/2011 16:27

Thanks travellingwilbury, he'll have that ace drug (when used in hospitals) that means he will be suggestible and do as he is told but will forget straight after. I keep thinking they'll let me watch but they probably won't will they? I'd love to mind! What giraffes said anyway feels 'wrong' but is quick, I do have a friend who declared it 'worse than childbirth' but she's an actress so we'll leave it there Grin

Flisspaps · 02/12/2011 16:29

DH did last year. He seemed to be quite shocked about it after. I do think it's the most invasive thing he's ever experienced though Wink

chickensaresafehere · 02/12/2011 16:29

I had it done a couple of weeks ago because of chronic sinusitis,it was tickly & slightly uncomfortable & made my eyes water, but overall not too bad.The hardest part was keeping really still!!
The consultant told me what he had seen - no nasty stuff but a deviated septum & gave me a prescription for some steroid nasal spray.
Got to have an MRI scan for my one-eared tinnitus next week, not looking forward to that.
But don't worry it will be over before you know it.

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 16:37

travelling - yes got results there and then. No anaesthetic or anything. The sadistic doctor got off on telling me that the children who have it done don't even flinch.

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 16:40

In my case there was nothing to be found. I'd been experiencing a lump in my throat which was significantly intrusive that I had problems swallowing my food. It was possibly linked to thyroiditis - diagnosed quite soon after. No problems since.

travellingwilbury · 02/12/2011 16:57

Thank you , I feel better about having it done now ,fingers crossed they don't find anything grim now .

lost my ds had to have that when he had a tooth out , was very funny afterwards ,he remembers nothing about it and said the worst thing was having the cannula put in .

chickens I had an mri done many moons ago and it was fine honest , bit boring if anything .

inhibernation I also have a weird lump feeling when I swallow but thyroid is clear so bit scared about the whole thing , just want it done and over with now .

inhibernation · 02/12/2011 18:34

fingers crossed it is ok and just something innocuous or transient that isn't sinister at all. When are you having it done?

travellingwilbury · 02/12/2011 18:49

The 12th so not too long but long enough . Keep your fingers crossed for me .

Hi, I've had an endoscopy (camera down my throat into my stomach) and colonoscopy (camera up into anus and bowels)
They were both very unpleasant. Sedation didn't work either.
I've had an NG tube up my nose into my stomach, its ok apart from the bit when it gets to the throat and gag reflex, but that easy peasy, no pain.
The camera down throat and up anus, is terrible.

hellhasnofury · 02/12/2011 20:50

Me. They were looking at my sinuses. They were able to see that there was something there but not exactly what it was.

It wasn't painful, it just felt weird. I'll probably get it done again in two weeks time. A nurse held my head so I couldn't pull away (but not in a restrictive way if that makes sense).

crazycrackernanna · 02/12/2011 20:50

Hope it goes ok travelling Xmas Smile

I am looking forward to having RabbitCam up my fanjo...Dec 15th beggars can't be choosers Xmas Wink

Haggisfish · 02/12/2011 20:53

I had camera up my nose and wasn't too bad at all - my brother was with me and remembers seeing my toes twitching! An odd sensation of pressure, but no pain or gagging. The numbing spray was the worst bit - tasted bitter and couldn't feel myself breathing for a while, but otherwise fine. Also was told there was nothing weird there and then.

alisonsmum · 02/12/2011 20:58

Ive had it done twice. Opted for sedation as i was really really sore (imflamed bowel due to? chrons disease). both times was fine. Didnt hurt really just a bit uncomfortable cos they blow air in there so they can see. Loads of erm...wind...afterwards

alisonsmum · 02/12/2011 21:01

Oh its for your nose...my post isnt helpful at all then. Sorry op. Good luck anyway
