OK who else wants to join up to be fit and forty in 2006 rather than fat and forty?

Caligyulea · 30/12/2005 11:33

That's one of my new year's resolutions.

I'll be forty in early March, so have about 10 weeks to get fit not fat.

Going on a GI diet next week (well, I've got 8 mince pies and one and a half bottles of wine to finish off before then) and doing power walking or running once the snow has gone.

What's everyone else doing?

i would if i had the energy, 39 now 40 on 1st april

elastamum · 30/12/2005 11:43

Bit late for me, 41 here! Tried this a couple of years ago, am 1/2 stone lighter but still not very fit. Getting a cross trainer for Xmas. DH says it is the most expensive clothes hanger he has ever bought Will also go back on GI and try to kick out the booze for January

PottyinaPearTree · 30/12/2005 12:10

43 this year . Need to lose half a stone but have been running for 6 years now and it's the best thing I ever did. Plus it's free and your trainers don't take up space in the spare room

I'll bump the runners thread.........everyone welcome!!

EliBeentoSantasGrotto · 30/12/2005 13:55

Aahhh...46 this year. Not so fat, but flabby? Ho yes. Pilates once a week, lots of running around after DD, but I'd really like to start swimming again...and my BIG goal is to cut down on sugar. Daily chocolate, cake, desserts - out! It'll kill me

motherinferior · 30/12/2005 14:00

I'll be 43 - OMG - this year too. DP has just thrown out our scales (he says because they were knackered but I suspect his own encroaching girth was reproaching as well as encroaching). Am planning no booze and no refined sugar in Jan. Partly as anti-depressant measure. Ditto getting back into swimming. It may kill me, of course.

noddyholder · 30/12/2005 14:01

yes me!!!

Twiglett · 30/12/2005 14:03

can I be fit and not yet 40?

lilibet · 30/12/2005 14:05

I'll be 43 this year too

I am going to drink on two nights per week rather than the seven I have been doing at the moment

I am going to have three sensible meals per day, with no snacking in between, I eat that much in snacks I can't finish my tea sometimes, and we are not talking carrot sticks here

When dp says at 11 o'clock at night" shall I make cheese on toast with some gorgeous onion chutney?" I shall throw the nearest heavy object at him.

I will get more excercise but i don't know what or when, suggestions welcome!

ButternutSquash · 30/12/2005 14:07

Yes me too! Will turn 40 in May, still havent't lost all the weight I put on when pregnant (dd will be 5 in feb... ) and have become increasingly unfit over the past couple of years. Will try to go running at least once a week, swimming ditto, and do my pilates video a couple of times a week. Will also try to watch what I eat (my biggest problem is late evening snacking).

motherinferior · 30/12/2005 14:24

Lillibet, lovely as TUTB is, perhaps throwing things could be a useful form of exercise?

lilibet · 30/12/2005 14:25

And he is lighter than me which should give me even more incentive!

Dingle · 30/12/2005 14:29

Hi Caligyulea!! What day in March do you hit the big 4-0 then. Mine is the 7th!!!!

Have about a stone to lose ideally.

Tinker · 30/12/2005 14:29

I'd just like to be forty again!

motherinferior · 30/12/2005 14:31

Nah, I had a new baby when I was 40. Life has to be easier now!

bubble99 · 30/12/2005 14:32

I'll join you!! 1966 was a good year.

Tinker · 30/12/2005 14:34

Actually, quite like being 41. Glad the countdown to 40 is over.

Crystaltips · 30/12/2005 14:39

Please count me in .... I need to lose at least half a stone - AND totone up the rest.

I am giving up booze for January ( which is a HUGE step for me )

So yes ...

lilibet · 30/12/2005 14:50

I am happier being in my forties than I have ever been before, more content with my lot in life.

Still don't want to be this size tho'. I have put on a stone since I got married in February and I thought I was too big then!

mancmum · 30/12/2005 14:57

totally agree with Tinker, glad that 40 is behind me now ...

But would quite like to shape up a bit -- have promised to raise some money for charidee this year by running something longer than a bath... so will watch and hopefully join in on this thread and maybe get in better shape for the bog 4-1!!

JoolsToo · 30/12/2005 15:01

I'd LOVE to forty - even a fat forty

iota · 30/12/2005 15:18

I was a fat 40 - -I was 5 mths pregnant on my 40th birthday

Caligyulea · 30/12/2005 15:43

Oh yes. Giving up booze for January. Must do that.

Yesterday I walked up and down the stairs for 10 minutes. It was exhausting. (I have 2 flights of stairs in my house, one 14 stairs and the other 9. My logic was that I had no excuse for not exercising as all the facilities are there. It is definitely easier and more entertaining to run.)

goosey · 31/12/2005 15:57

Well Dh and I have joined our local leisure centre - membership being our Christmas pressies to eachother. Gym induction booked for Tuesday. Tesco value t-shirts and track bottoms at the ready. I'll be 40 (and FIT!) in November.
