...well thats it really!! He says its not visibly swollen, but definitely a lot larger than it normally is, and its tender when he moves or sits down.

I don't want to think the worst (no matter how much of a git he is right now!) But would testicular cancer show like this?

What else could it be??? He says he's going to wait until after the New Year to see if it goes away before going to the Doctor!

My dad's testicular cancer presented as a painless lump, not a swelling or an increase in size. There's a number of things it could be that aren't cancer - he needs to see the GP and get it checked out.

JenumGeranium · 30/12/2005 10:54

Dont really know much about this.

Has he had a knock or hurt this area recently?

JenumGeranium · 30/12/2005 10:55

plus I think if it was cancer, it wouldnt necessarily hurt, but I could be wrong.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 10:55

Thanks WWB, sorry about your DH!

He hasn't knocked it as far as I know..... unless I have psychologically kicked him in the balls which I've wanted to do often over the past few weeks!

Right fisrt off Don't panic and tell him not to panic.

He should see the doc asap. Chances are it will be some form of infection (since it is sore) , ora fluid build up....both easy to treat, but either way he needs to get it sorted now not in the new year.

And if it is cancer the sooner it is sorted the better......ealy on it has an alonst 100% survival rate. It is the most treatable form of cancer there is. Dh had it 11 years ago, we had our two kids naturaly and everything is in working order! He even went back to flying fighter jets after.....he is still all man!

But tell your dh not to be a jessy and get to the doctors now

WigWamBam · 30/12/2005 10:56

And the chances are it won't go away - get onto the GPs now for an appointment.

Blandmum · 30/12/2005 10:56

wwb! Snap!! I never knew!

Blandmum · 30/12/2005 10:56

sorry, thought you said dh.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 10:58

MB - He can't go to the Doctor now though.... as of 12pm they GP is closed until Wednesday 4th Jan.... and he is at work. And there is no way I'd get him to go to the A&E unless it swells to the size of a tennis ball.
I told him that if its an infection then its unlikely to just go away.... hmmm... MEN!

SackAche · 30/12/2005 10:58

God WWB - I thought it was DH too! sorry.

Blandmum · 30/12/2005 10:58

Do you have an out of hours service?

SackAche · 30/12/2005 11:00

MB - Yes, but only if you phone NHS24..... wait for a call back... and if they think it warrants it they arrange an appointment at the Out of Hours surgery at the hospital for you. You can't just go there anymore. At least its an option if it gets worse of the next few days.

Testicular lumps

Sackache (I am saying nothing about your choice of Christmas name now) - when my brother has this it turned out to be an inguinal hernia (see my link) - sounds like it could be this with your dh too. But he MUST go to the doctor. If it was cancer (it doesn't sound like it - I think that cancerous growths are uaually painless) then it is eminently treatable if caught early enough.

I know of two young men who have had testicular cancer. One - my brother's friend - was 24, got treatment straight away and is absolutely fine 10 years on. The other (work colleague's son's friend) was too embarrassed to see his GP. He collapsed at work and was taken to hospital - the cancer had spread to his bones, and he died weeks later. He was 19. Make him go to the GP - make an emergency appointment today.

nutcracker · 30/12/2005 11:04

Sackache - the 18 yr old son of a relation of mine had this. It started out as just being sore but then he was in agony.
He went to the hospital and was admitted for observation but then the doc decided to operate to see what was wrong. Turned out the testicle was ll twisted. It was dead as had no blood supply and so they took it away.

Not meaning to scare but just wanted to explain what it could be.

nutcracker · 30/12/2005 11:05

Also my brother had a swollen testicle but that was just fluid and he had it drained away. That never hurt though.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 11:08

OMG How appropriate is my posting name?!?!?! Have I tempted fate??????????

I'm not really scared right now. DH has been to the GP before after he found a lump in his testicle.... well actually it had been there for years, but since ds was born it started playing on his mind. It was checked out and was nothing to worry about..... so I'm trying to stay pretty rational about all this.

I think I'm almost wanting it to get really sore and swollen so that he gets it seen to pronto!

hadit · 30/12/2005 11:12

I would go to a and e, if he needs antibiotics they will start them straight away. And thank you for posting on my thread, even tho you have all this to worry about at the mo.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 11:21

Hadit.... I'm starting to think there is a God and he's given DH a bit of pain to contend with for a change!!!

I'm sounding flippant.. I know... but I am worried about him.

OP posts:
hadit · 30/12/2005 11:32

Perhaps I should pray something for dh so he had to visit the gp and then I could ring the gp and arrange something.... or am I being disgustingly flippant too?

Freckle · 30/12/2005 11:41

Are you sure that it is swollen? Given your other thread, Sackache, the cynic in me wonders whether this is a bit of a ploy on his part. Apologies if it is genuine and agree that he needs to get it checked out as soon as possible.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 11:48

Freckle - No its definitely not a ploy.... he's not that premeditated!!! And I can't see him going to the bother of going to the GP (and he will eventually) to have his bollocks man-handled just to get a bit of sympathy from me! Now that would be desperate!!!!

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 30/12/2005 11:54

DP had an achy swollen testicle a while ago and it was epididimitis (inflamation of the epididmis...one of the tubes)

He was given antibiotics for it and was fine in a short while.

MarsyChristmas · 30/12/2005 11:55

He should go today not in the New Year. If it is the worse case scenario then the sooner seen the better. Even if it's not, he should still go today and get it sorted.

SackAche · 30/12/2005 12:13

I can't get in touch with him.... he's 50 miles away at work and will be there until 10pm.
