...well thats it really!! He says its not visibly swollen, but definitely a lot larger than it normally is, and its tender when he moves or sits down.

I don't want to think the worst (no matter how much of a git he is right now!) But would testicular cancer show like this?

What else could it be??? He says he's going to wait until after the New Year to see if it goes away before going to the Doctor!

Oh Pruni .... what kind of treatment did he need?

With Pruni on this one - get it checked out asap -have a friend who had similar symptoms - it was cancer - any change in them are like changes to a woman's breasts - best checked out asap.....

Thanks Pruni. I really hope it isn't TC.

He's been working really hard, physically, on the run up to Christmas and has already injured his shoulder lugging massive boxes around! Could he perhaps have done himself an injury that would cause this???? >hopeful emoticon

pruni, how long ago did your dh have the tumour?

I ask because my dh had a seminoma 11 years ago. He also did the Mr Frosty bit with the specimin, but in the end we didn't need it. My dh had the testivle removed and three shots of chemo, but not radiotherapy. He had monthly checks at first, then went to 3 monthly and eventualy once a year. He got the all clear 10 years down the line.

Dh had a seminoma, which is the other kind to yours , I think.

Age 30 in the average time for a seminoma, teratomas hppen a bit younger I think.

Sweetheart, don't panic! Dh's wasn't painful. Your dh is much more likely to have an infection, a torsion or fluid build up. But any way he needs to get it sorted.

And dh is 11 years doewn the line and seminoma free! (he had leukemia but that is unrelated ....I think he is just trying to get away from me and this is the act of a desparate man )

Honestly, I'm sure it is nothing to worry about....but get him to see the GP

My dh had what sounds like identical symptoms to yours, and he was TERRIFIED, poor thing. He went to the doc and it turned out to be a large epididimal cyst, just a water-filled lump. The doctor said it didn't need anything done about it. That testicle is considerably and obviously larger than the other and he does have to "manipulate" it to make himself comfy sometimes... but he is used to it, and it is harmless. I hope your dh has got either the same or something equally unthreatening!

fireflyfairy2 · 31/12/2005 11:15

Has he been doing anything strenous recently? My Dh is a builder and is always lifting heavy good etc.. about 9years ago his became swollen, but it was massively swollen, I saw it, it was huge. He got the doc out who give him pain killers, the next day Dh drove himself (this was before we were married and I was 40 miles away at work) to A&E. Next thing I knew I was getting a phonecall to say he had gone into surgery. He had twisted his testicle, and it had withered and died, it was removed, he now has one, and we also have 2 healthy children. They can actually replace them with something that bears a remarkable resemblance to a table tennis ball but DH didn't want a false one.. and they're all right, he's still all man to me

lucykate · 31/12/2005 11:25

on a lighter note, my dh says this to me occasionally. he says the way to make it go away is for the testicle to be emptied

but if you're really worried, definatley get it checked out

Blandmum · 31/12/2005 11:29

Firefly, they offered one to dh as he also refused.....said he only wanted one that would play 'Flower of Scotland ' when active!

And as you say, they are still 'all man'

JoolsToo · 31/12/2005 12:44

sackache - haven't read all the thread but ds1 had swollen testicle when he was about 8 - it was a torsion and was corrected with surgery, don't know if it occurs in adults but I can't see why not - it's a possibility anyway

good luck

PantomimEDAMe · 31/12/2005 13:11

Just to add further reassurance about testicular cancer, my old boss had this, was picked up early because he went to his doctor, had treatment as already described and is absolutely fine. He now has a gorgeous little girl, to boot. Even if it is cancer, and not something less scary, it will almost certainly be fine as long as he goes to the docs.

Blandmum · 31/12/2005 13:15

Fully agree with Edam, if you 'have' to have cancer, it is the one to have. Caught at the early stage it is essentialy totaly treatable.

Dh is now 43, had it at age 30, not only were both out kids fathered normaly after his treatment, he is fit enough to be in the RAF....thay have just 'upped' his medical catagory, since he is essentaily 'cured' at this stage.

He was sensible enough to feel a lump and get it treated asap.....very, very scary at the time but all OK now.

And he is still very much all man! Sixfoot in his socks and looks very tasty in his flying suit

TurkeyGang · 31/12/2005 13:23

My dad had a hydrocele (fluid type cyst) and it was sorted out very quickly. That is to say once he actually went to the doctors about it - after worrying like mad and being generally ratty but not saying why for ages. Men!

Toothache · 06/01/2006 14:07

Quick Update: The 'swelling' disappeared the next day and so did the pain! He had strained his shoulder lifting and carrying things at work so he's assumed that he's also injured his groin area too!

However, I'd still like him to go to the GP to get it checked out, but of course he won't now.

Thanks for all your advice and I hope his swelling doesn't return.

edam · 06/01/2006 14:25

Sounds hopeful but I'd still kick him into seeing the GP. If he's being spineless about it, could you make an appointment for him? Would he turn up?
