I did'nt see it happen and there is no bump, have called NHS who said to just keep an eye on him, just seems strange that he was sick and very sleepy within a couple of hours of it happening. I kept him awake for a further 3 hours and he is now in bed fast asleep, am hoping he just has a bug and that the bang on the head was just coinsedence.

Surely if the bang on the head was bad enough to cause the voniting and tiredness he would have a bump???

He has only been sick once but said his head was still hurting when he went to bed.

erm i'd be at and e myself. dd2 fell down the stairs and was sick. i took her straight down and had her checked over.

bsg · 22/12/2005 21:28

My dd had a bang on the head at school about a month ago. She went to sleep within the hour and when she woke she had a temp and was sick. It lasted only a few hours and then she was fine.

snowfalls · 22/12/2005 21:30

Oooh yes he has a temp too of 39.5

If you're worried why not go to A&E?

Mercy · 22/12/2005 21:30

Doesn't sound quite right to me (NHS advice that is)

Call your out of hours GP service to be on the safe side

snowfalls · 22/12/2005 21:31

He is asleep now, NHS did'nt think it was anything to be concerned about.

Twiglett · 22/12/2005 21:32

I would definately A& E in this .. because not having a bump is another sign to look for I think

will google

polly28 · 22/12/2005 21:32

don't mean to alarm you but a bump on the head is a good sign that the swelling is on the outside of the skull and unlikely to cause swelling to the actual brain.

If your ds is sleepy at an unusual time I would wake him and check he is okay,I'm sur he is fine kid's heads are strong especially the front and back.

hth

Mercy · 22/12/2005 21:33

Ok he has a temp. Monitor him every couple of hours - put him in your bed??

snowfalls · 22/12/2005 21:33

He said the side of his head hurts, about an inch above the top of his ear.

Back in a mo, gonna check on him again.

OP posts:
Twiglett · 22/12/2005 21:34

here

I'm sorry but I'd be taking him to A&E definately

polly28 · 22/12/2005 21:35

there are some awful bugs around at the moment that could be causing the sleepiness and fever.
how old is he?

snowfalls · 22/12/2005 21:36

Calling Gp, he is shaking, hot, and in a pool of sweat.

My dd was complaining a lot that her head hurt. I forgot to mention that DH did take her to A & E. They checked her over and she was fine apart from the temp and sickness. (No damage to head)

aw poor thing, does sound like a virus though, hopefully that's all it is.

Has he vomited more than once?

Twiglett · 22/12/2005 21:38

good luck snowfalls

I'm sure he'll be fine .. there's this bit on that link too

Minor Injury
A typical minor head injury generally occurs when a child falls and bangs his or her head. A bump begins to develop. The child remains conscious, although initially stunned. For a few minutes, the child is inconsolable and may even vomit once or twice during the first couple of hours. The child may nap but is easily aroused. Neither pupil is enlarged, and the vomiting ceases after a short time. Within eight hours, the child is back to normal except for the tender "goose egg."

MrsBigD · 22/12/2005 21:46

could be a slight concussion maybe?

I'd keep an eye on him and as per Twigletts 'minor injury' description keep checking on him.

If you are really worried defo go to A&E

Saying that there is a virus going round and my ds actually snoozed off on the floor the other day in a rather uncomfortable position which had never happened before! In fact I think I put that pic up in members profile as it's oh so cute...

GOOD LUCK WITH DS! I'm sure he'll be fine. They're tough those little tykes
