Sex post childbirth and ? about getting coil fitted.

Well, how long did you wait? Isn't is customary for your GP to ask at your six week check if you have tried sex? If so does that mean that if you weren't supposed to have it before 6 weeks you would have been told? It is ok basically as long as you feel it is ok, right? Please?

Also I want to have a mirena fitted and as with all coils is is recommended/inisted that you have them put in when on your period, but as I am b/f for the forseable future there will probably be no periods, so can I insist anyway? Are doctors happy to fit a coil post birth before periods have returned?

I had Mirena fitted at about 9 weeks postnatally. I'd had a couple of bleeds which seemed menstrual but erratic as also bf. Certainly wasn't at the time of fitting so it can't be a requirement. Also it can be used as a form of Emergency contraception so it would not apply then either.

Don't feel forced to try out sex before the "magic" 6 weeks unless you really feel up to it. Everyone is different. If you do make sure you use contraception as you never know when your cycle kicks back in. Actually my OBGyn advised me not to until after my check up so don't think it is obligatory !

ok, one more question, it didn't hurt at all, but now, about 3 hours latter the Lochia has started again...its only 3 weeks since I had the baby so I know that there is no reason for the lochia to have stopped anyway...but I, er, didn't break anything did I?

Used contraception, before anyone thinks I'm already going for baby 3.

I should point out that the lochia has been stopping and starting for the past 2 weeks anyway.

Isnt lochia linked to activity anyway?

Thats what I thought coddy too...just feeling paranoid as I think it was about 2/3 months after DD1.

My lochia went on way past the 6 weeks check

DS3 is almost 5 weeks and although we haven't done the deed yet I have had bleeding for the almost the whole time, it stops for a day or so then starts again so maybe thats what going on with you or all your activity has 'dislodged' a bit that was remaining.
We didn't wait until the magic 6 weeks with DS1+2 and the GP wasn't concerned at all. Haven't got the energy this time, DS3 will be 6 years old before I've got enough energy and recovered from the sleep deprevation(sp?)

my midwife said that it was common for lochia to stop, and then have a bit of a bleed a bit later, just as the uterus did its final contracting down and got rid of whatever might be remaining in there.
strikes me that if you had an orgasm, the uterus would have been doing a bit of contracting...
perhaps that is it? but no doubt mears will tell you when she logs on...!

We started again after about 3 weeks and the same happened to me - a little more lochia. Don't think you need to worry.
Another question - my periods didn't start until dd was 11 months old (stopped bf-ing at 13 months), does anyone know if it is more or less the same for any subsequent children? We are waiting for dp's vasectomy appointment to come through and have been using nowt as we are very stupid. Ds is 2 months old BTW.

You're living dangerously! Someone I know is due to have second baby in the New Year - first will be 13 months old and is bf! My pattern with dd was different to ds, although having Mirena fitted at 9/10 weeks might have skewed the hormones I suppose.

Cha - doesn't matter when periods restart - do not have unprotected sex if you not want to get pregnant.

My doctor very specifically said that nothing is to go into the vagina for 6 weeks after baby. Don't know anything about the coil.

Blimey I'm impressed with you having the inclination. it was weeks before I even contemplated it. I only had a slight graze with ds2 but all the same - I needed more time to recover mentally I think. Each to their own!

A friend of mine was at it just days after a C-section against advice of docs I might add!

er...mears can I ask if you didn't say anything about my ridiculous libido because it was ok to have sex, or because you don't want to instil the fear of hell in me as I have probably broken something?

We always made love as soon as I came home from hospital, I thought it was an old wives tale that you had to wait for 6 weeks! My lochia always lasted for about 6 - 8 weeks. If it goes bright red again though it is usually because you are doing tooo much or are exhausted.

It's not just the lochia, don't your boobs just gush so early on? It's all just so messy, no? I'm assuming you didn't have any stitches. My doctor's advice may have been associated with the fact that I had an episiotomy.
