Oh ffs It's not going to be good news, is it?

I've posted on the health board a couple of times about having low level chronic pancreatitis problems; and recently that I was having tests as I have been constantly nauseous, am tender around the upper left abdo area and have lost weight.

I had an endoscopy last wednesday, and on my 'take home' sheet, it said that everything was normal, but I will be referred for an ultrasound. So far so good, right?

Well I just had a phone call from the consultant's secretary - he wants to see me first thing tomorrow morning. She told me she couldn't tell me why, but that I had to come in.

It's not going to be anything good is it?

I don't have anything helpful to say, but didn't want your post to go unanswered. I do very much hope it is better news than you are fearing.

LadyPeterWimsey · 19/04/2011 14:01

Is there anyone you would want to go with you to see the consultant?

TheOriginalFAB · 19/04/2011 14:03

I had a call like that once. The consultant was concerned about me.

The secretaries are not allowed to say anything be it good or bad so try not to worry as that won't change the result.

Concentrate now on getting things ready to go in tomorrow. Sort out childcare/work, take a bag with overnight stuff in just in case as well as a trashy magazine and some drinks and snacks.

I hope it is just an appointment to discuss things are okay and how to proceed.

Bearskinwoolies · 19/04/2011 14:16

I texted my dh as soon as I got the call, and he's coming with me. From what little the secretary said, I've had my consultant changed since last wednesday, and I'm not sure why.

I'm freaking out just a little tbh.

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 19/04/2011 14:23

I do wish medical people would tell patients more. I have had my meds changed and don't know why as well as being put on more tablets without really knowing why.

What time are you going?

Of course you are freaking out. I am too about DD's results as I don't know if no news is good news.

Bearskinwoolies · 19/04/2011 16:28

The secretary has me down at 9.30 - apparently it's the first one of the day.

When it comes to meds and things like that I'm ok as I'm a Pharm Tech, but after them telling me it was all ok, then ringing me.....

I'm actually glad to be going to work later, and use my brain for something else but this.

Good luck...

I hope all will be well.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 19/04/2011 17:04

Bear - maybe if it's a new consultant he just wants to meet you? I hope it's not what you are worrying about x

Pheebe · 19/04/2011 18:35

If its a new consultant, hopefully he's squeezing you in so he can review your treatment plan especially if endoscopy was normal. Could be that they ahd a cancelation slot for you...

Keep busy x

stripeywoollenhat · 19/04/2011 18:43

some detail inconclusive and needs rechecking? or as pheebe says maybe a cancellation? hope you can put it from your mind this evening, and good luck in the morning

fanjolina · 19/04/2011 18:48

hope it's good news for you

Bearskinwoolies · 20/04/2011 02:08

Thanks all - have been at work and done my level best to think about everything else.

One thing I have realised though, is that the consultant I'm going to see is not the one who did the endoscopy last week. Confused

Off to get some sleep.

OP posts:
PositiveAttitude · 20/04/2011 06:30

Hope you managed to sleep ok BSW.

At the end of last year I had a lump which was being investigated and changed consultants half way through the investigations. When I changed I had a phone call from new consultants secretary when I was on holiday asking me when was the first time I could come and see him. I arranged it for the day I returned from holiday, but it wasn't a particularly relaxing holiday after that!! When I got there it was just to review all the investigations so far and discuss what else needed to be done. I hope yours is something like that too. I was reassured that the new consultant was actually going to be moving fast to get things sorted out for me, which he did.

Bucharest · 20/04/2011 06:33

Hope everything is OK!
I do think that although secretaries aren't allowed to say anything, they do sometimes inadvertently give you the willies over nothing.
Fingers crossed for you this morning! Smile

kuckingfunt · 20/04/2011 08:54

Hope everything is ok - thinking of you today.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 20/04/2011 10:19

Just checking in to see if you were back yet... I hope it went OK x

Bearskinwoolies · 20/04/2011 10:31

I'm back, and it went ok!

My case was taken over by the head of surgery, who is unhappy that I've been having problems since my surgery to remove my gall bladder, and wanted to see and examine me. It seems that my common bile duct has some scarring so he's referring me to a specialist for extensive tests before he considers any further surgery.

He's decided to change some of the meds that I'm on, and hopes that it will help with the pain and nausea [fingers crossed]

I'm getting an ultrasound next week, and it's full steam ahead from there.

Phew Grin

Bearskinwoolies · 20/04/2011 10:33

Also wanted to say a big thank you, your words of wisdom really helped, so a big un-mumsnetty hug to you all.

Oh that's a relief for you!
Smile

stripeywoollenhat · 20/04/2011 10:35

really pleased to hear it. hope new meds help Smile

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 20/04/2011 10:37

I'm angry now - why can't the receptionists be told certain things to pass onto you, so you don't WORRY that it's so much worse! I mean she could have said to you he feels it's important to look at your meds and talk to you about doing another ultrasound.... then you wouldn't have been so stressed about it!!

Anyway, I'm pleased it went well :) and I hope it all gets sorted out without too many other problems!!

TheOriginalFAB · 20/04/2011 11:28

I am pleased for you it wasn't anything serious.

PositiveAttitude · 20/04/2011 12:26

Pleased for you BSW. Smile

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 20/04/2011 12:34
