you haven't got an ear infection - affects your balance and gives you bedspins when you're lying down

Elibean · 14/04/2011 18:43

How long have you been feeling like that? Liver function is sensitive, and test can be affected by something as simple as a virus...which would also go hand in hand with your other symptoms.
Raised LFTs (liver function tests) are always repeated, because more often than not they come back normal the second time. If not, the u/s is a good idea just because its simple, non-invasive, and shows whether your liver is happy and healthy looking or could possibly have some sort of problem.
Many of which are highly treatable, by the way Smile
Symptoms sound horrid, and might be nothing to do with your liver function - could be inner ear (labyrinthitis) or some such. Poor you, do hope better soon.

systemsaddict · 14/04/2011 18:48

Are you still getting very disturbed sleep OWO? This is what sleep deprivation does to me, including the nausea and blurry vision.

nightcat · 14/04/2011 19:24

Get copies of the results and have a thorough look at each line yourself.

My ds results were often described as normal, but on close inspection, a lot of his results were borderline low or even below the ref range. From that we were able to work on improving his nutrition and his liver function.

I then found out that low results are rarely commented on Hmm why??

noarguments · 14/04/2011 19:31

some sort of inner ear infection, or labrinthitis or similar? (PS no medical knowledge - had a friend with labrinthitis and it sounded similar.)

wfrances · 14/04/2011 19:48

i had menieres disease,sounds similar
couldnt peg out the clothes as double vision so bad
or stand still as i would sway forward,

OnlyWantsOne · 14/04/2011 19:52

Funny you should mention pegging out washing I ha to lean against the fence to hang mine out today.

I have just looked at my blood order form dr has written

Increased a&p retest and calcium levels

Did a Pg test - negative :)

OP posts:
Asinine · 14/04/2011 19:59

Have you done a pg test?

Has someone examined you properly? Looked in the back of your eyes, tested visual fields, basic neurological examination?

There are many things which could cause your symptoms, a normal neuro examination would be reassuring. Inner ear problems are a possibility, and again this could be caused by many conditions.

Ask your gp what the working diagnosis is, sounds like they have left you in the dark.

Hope you feel better soon

wfrances · 14/04/2011 20:01

would like to add that was diagonsed after a head ct to rule out any tumors.

OnlyWantsOne · 14/04/2011 20:04

So she said I should go back if I have any more concerns - this doesn't feel normal. I've been tired before but I genuinely have times when I feel so sick it comes over like a wave

OP posts:
OnlyWantsOne · 14/04/2011 20:04

Why would she want to know about my calcium levels??

Oh goodness don't even mention brain tumors!

OP posts:
FrameyMcFrame · 14/04/2011 21:23

Have you had a virus like flu recently? Only what you describe is exactly how I'm feeling and apparently I have a post viral syndrome after a particularly nasty flu bug that knocked me over like a tank...
Hope you feel right agaain soon :)

Asinine · 14/04/2011 21:50

Go back and see the gp, you will be anxious after reading some of these posts and that will not help your symptoms. The gp should be able to tell quite a lot from your symptoms and physical examination and be able to reassure you as far as possible whilst you wait for results of tests.

Elibean · 14/04/2011 22:20

What's a&p? Confused I don't recognize it as a liver function - nor calcium!

Really does remind me of my friend's condition when she had labyrinthitis (they thought it might be Menieres with her too). Very nauseous, in waves, very dizzy, very tired. Had to lie down most of the time or fell over.

Go back to GP and ask about those, for starters - far, far, far more likely than anything sinister.

heliumballoons · 14/04/2011 22:23

I am feeling like this today and was really bad yesterday.

DS had vomiting bug at weekend, I have been snotty and really bunged up yesterday, also URT is very mucasy. I have put all the symptoms down to post-viral so frameys post is reassuring.

FWIW onlywantsone when DS was 2 months I was the same, had to stop BF too Sad. I had bloods and liver showed some inflammation. The nurse helpfully told me to stop drinking Shock and lose weight Shock FFS I'd popped DS out 8 weeks previously. Angry Further liver tests revealed viral hepatitis (G?). It did clear fairly quickly but they repeated the tests until they were normal. Hoping this post reassures you it can be liver related to post viral.

heliumballoons · 14/04/2011 22:27

It could be AP levels. These can indicate gallbladder problems.

heliumballoons · 15/04/2011 17:28

I ad it again for sometime last night and when in bed. Half way through morning it did it again. I am putting it down to my tubes being blocked as I've had/ got a cold. Have you had a virus/ cold?

Elibean · 15/04/2011 18:06

Sounds exactly like my friend's labyrinthitis. She said it was awful, and totally disabling.

alp = alkaline phosphotase enzyme. A raised level can indicate a problem in either the liver or bone( hence calcium test). However it is quite often raised and no cause is found and then it returns to normal. How high is it do you know?
