Anyone taken Diazepam for anxiety?

kuckingfunt · 21/02/2011 13:53

Doctor has just precribed these to me. I haven't picked up prescription yet but has just given me a few days worth to take along with some other anti d's that he says will take a couple of weeks to kick in. He has given me the diazepam to take so they kick in immediately while waiting for the others to take effect.

I have never taken any medication like this and am a bit scared if I am honest.

Has anyone taken them? Do they work? What are the side effects?

I am taking up to 3 tablets 5mg a day to help with some seriously bad issues I'm facing at the moment. I've also got zoplicone for sleeping if I need it - 3.75 mg and have been on venlafaxine for ages. the diazepam really does relax me and the zop gives me a fab nights sleep. I'm not taking them as prescirbed, just when i feel really wound up and they just relax me. If you are very careful and don't go mad, they are wonderful!

I was prescribed Librium a good few years ago, surprisingly as I didn't really need them (even now I don't think they were necessary)
I used to take one before a hectic Saturday night waitressing Blush they gave a very 'submarine' feeling, as if I were gliding along below all the madness and noise.

Yes.

I am lucky in that I only suffer anxiety in certain very specific and fairly rare circumstances (phobia-related) so I didn't have the added anxiety, when taking them, that I might become addicted.

Tbh, I hardly noticed the effects.

I have a vague memory of posting a thread on here when I took my first tablet "live" as it were.

I still have some in the bottle, which will be long out of date now.

I have been taking them for some time. My GP gives me 28 5mg and I take them as I need them. I usually take half - 1 a day and they last me over a month.

I used to take anti Ds but they are not for me. I would have to be on them for ever and I dont like them being in my system all the time. I like the control valium gives me. Some days I dont take any at all. I cannot become dependant because I do not have access to enough. If I took too many I wouldnt be able to get another prescription IYSWIM.

They have fallen out of favour because they were so overprescribed and addictive.

I think they are a bloody marvel and they allow me to get on with my life.

I hope they help you and you get on well with your other meds.

thanks MrsDeeVere, glad they helped you. Yes it may be that I only need these for a short time just to get over this difficult time.

Half an hour in since taking one and I haven't noticed any difference at all.

2mg is a really small dose so I wouldnt expect anything mega Smile

You usually feel the affects after about 10mins at the most. It probably is doing something but you dont realise.

So not so scarey after all Smile

oh well if this is all it does then I am not scared anymore!

Really, only 10 mins? I wonder what it is doing then? Maybe I will sleep well anyway Smile

I have 2mg three times a day when needed for back pain as it helps relax the muscles around the spine. I can't honestly feel anything at all when I take them in terms of light-headedness, etc (although my back hurts less)

I did have a very stressful incident occur while I was taking them one time (DDs headmaster was really rude to me Shock) and I was astounded at how well I handled it.

Hopefully they will do the same for you.

I am going to take mine in a minute. This is like one of those 60's mass acid drop parties.

(well ok, not quite).

One thing I would say - DO NOT pop on to Amazon or ASOS etc after you have taken your tablet. I get emails saying 'thank you for your order, it has now been dispatched'. Do you think I can remember what the bloody hell I have bought?

I plan nothing more taxing than watching One Born Every Minute and reading credit crunch threads.

{smile] it is, our very own acid party!!

That made me laugh about Amazon etc. Now there is a plus point to taking them ...I can go online shopping and deny all knowledge of spending the money when DP asks [smile}

I am feeling a bit more tired. So much for our party, I'll be in bed in half an hour Grin

Has the sick feeling worn off yet Fab?
