Toothache · 29/09/2005 09:28

Lucy5 - I've phoned sick before after major rows with DH! My eyes have been really puffy and I couldn't be bothered explaining to people why!

moondog · 29/09/2005 09:31

No,but as an sahm, have often wanted to escape to the (relative) peace and calm of the office!

Enid · 29/09/2005 09:31

in chinese medicine they would say your blood is weak (hence mood swings after your period has started) and you should take Dong Quai (hormonal regulation supplement + blood strengthener) and iron tablets.

I know that sounds bonkers but I used to get bad DMT (During Menstrual Tension) and my friend who is a chinese herbalist told me this, in 1 month I felt soooo much better. you can buy dong quai from health food shops.

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 09:31

I havent given reasons yet but I will have to tommorrow. I was thinking migrane so they dont think im a nutter.

Its hard when your at home, I remember it well.

OP posts:
lucy5 · 29/09/2005 10:34

A good excuse for a "sickie" is to say that you have had some mysterious allergic reaction to something. That is exactly the kind of thing that can be bad enough that you can't come to work, but gone in 24 hours.

I did that one once and was so convincing that they next day my boss was really concerned that I had come back to work too soon as I "didn't look 100%"

Hope you feel better soon

MB

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 10:51

Thanks, I have to get a sick note from doctor even for 1 day. I cant obviously! So Im trying to come up with something plausible. thanks for ideas so far.

OP posts:
colditz · 29/09/2005 11:11

Urticaria.

It's actually nettle rash, but a lot of people don't know that. and it can appear and disappear withn 24 hours.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2005 11:16

Please put down "crying shaking psycho bitch from hell" as the reason on your sick form

Go for "extremely painful period". Not far from the truth and (a) a male boss will be too embarrassedto question it and (b) a woman boss will know what you mean.

waterfalls · 29/09/2005 11:19

lol, I think "crying shaking psycho bitch from hell" as the reason on your sick form, would be hysterical, and i doubt that would get questioned either

jasper · 29/09/2005 11:20

shocked at the lot of you. If someone at our work threw a sickie the whole place is thrown into turmoil. We absolutely depend on every member of the team.

waterfalls · 29/09/2005 11:23

She is not throwing a sickie, what use would she be when she is feeling like that?

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 11:38

I hope from one woman to another that you are joking Jasper. There is no way I could have done my job today. I cant even leave the house I feel so awful. im going to tell them the truth, like it or lump it.

OP posts:
colditz · 29/09/2005 11:56

Jaspar, from someone who leads a small team of women daily, I would rather someone stopped at home than came in with this level of pmt. It can be extremely disruptive.

I have sent girls home because of pmt. We do a high stress job, if you're not coping then you're not coping and that is that.

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 11:58

Thank you Colditz!

I had to take time off school with it before I went on the pill because I literally couldn't focus and was also in quite a bit of pain with them. I seemed alright on the pill though but I still dare anyone to tell me that PMT is make believe/bloody women exaggerating! I'm kinda back to my prepill days as I am now preggers and in an extremely bad mood today - so much so that I really shouldn't have come to work either! I am making more mistakes than helping!!

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 12:11

Exaactly, i teach kids from 4-11 including kids with behavioural problems. I am not a class teacher and I organised cover so not too much chaos would have been caused. I definetly know that I was in no way capable of dealing with a four year old who constantly tries to climb out of the window whilst teaching anything of any use to the others. I have tried all sorts of remedies but nothing ever works for long. I am considering a sex chaange

OP posts:
lucy5 · 29/09/2005 13:14

Still GRRRR, no chocolate in the house, GRRRRRR

OP posts:
Chloe55 · 29/09/2005 13:24

Uh oh! Get yourself off down the shops - it will only get worse hee hee

If it makes you feel better I have just had a Boost!

(Chloe quickly runs off before facing the wrath!)

lucy5 · 29/09/2005 13:28

WRATH. I live in the middle of nowhere, dont drive and bus stopped for 4 hour lunch break. And I couldnt buy a boost even if I wanted one as they dont sell them here. Im yearning for a star bar. Do they still make them?

OP posts:
lucy5 · 29/09/2005 13:28

im considering eating one of dds hungry hippos and I dont even like them!

OP posts:
Chloe55 · 29/09/2005 13:35

Do you have any chocolate powder in the house - making a drink might help?

If not, have a shot of Bailey's, always does the trick for me!
