Just in case anyone is interested in my neck lump, here's an update.....

I know a few of you lovely ladies were watching my thread about 5 weeks ago about my neck lump, so here's an update:

After the good MRI results I went back to the consultant, who had one feel and disagreed with them!!! Shock The lump had grown rapidly and should not have done, so I had a biopsy taken. 2 weeks wait only to be told it had failed. A second one taken with an ultrasound for guidance and I had a call last week to say that it had come back "inconclusive" Angry

So I asked to be referred to another consultant who I went to yesterday. He seemed a really nice guy and far more knowledge about this than the last one.

I have a rapidly growing tumour in my left parotid gland. The bit I can feel is just the edge of it and it looks huge on the scan pictures!! He was very honest and said that at the moment (well the scan was 17th September) the pictures show no "leakage" to connecting tissues, so it looks benign, but he wants to treat it as "suspiscious" until it is out and has been tested fully, especially due to the rapid growth. So I am waiting for a date for "urgent" surgery, which apparently should be within the next 6 weeks.

Its been a tough few weeks, but now I feel more relaxed knowing that something positive is being done and I have an ending in sight for this. I had wanted to avoid surgery, but it is the only way out now, so the sooner it is done the better and I can move on withb life. If it is malignant, then I will cope with that when/if I have to.

Thanks for all your support and positive vibes!! Grin

NettieSnowBalls · 20/11/2010 10:35

pa aw honey, you rant away. Pull the curtains and put all the lights out or a big sign on door saying.

Yes im fine, thanks for coming but will you just sod off please. Thank you!

If you cant sound off on MN where else can you.

PositiveAttitude · 21/11/2010 10:43

Thank you again everyone.

Today I am feeling far more human and less zombyfied!!

Did something a bit silly on Friday night. Out of desperation to get some proper sleep, I took the morphine I had been given for pain. I was desperate!!! Never again. Never, ever, ever again. I thought I was going to die! I react badly to drugs and these knocked me out sooooooo bad. Took them at 9.30pm on Friday, was totally incapable of thinking, focusing, being coherent or just being, until 3pm yesterday. Never again!!!!

But, today I feel better. No way back to work this week, but I can certainly see light at the end of the tunnel, finally! Grin And I can chew soft food now. Not up to steak, but had a sandwich (no crusts). Big step forward!!

Brilliant Grin

I'm so pleased you're on the up. It was brave taking the morphine, powerful stuff!

You can get accustomed to it though, the more you take it. not that I advocate getting into dependency Grin

Enjoy your sarnies!

sandripples · 21/11/2010 16:39

PA - glad you're starting to feel better. Grin about the morphine. I can understand your desperation although I wouldn't have been tempted as morphine makes me sick - as I discovered fater an op earlier this year!

Good luck for a better week starting tomorrow.

onlyjoking9329 · 21/11/2010 17:03

So glad the op went well, thou you could have done with the allergic reaction.
Fingers crossed for good results, I'm sure the results will be good, IME bad results come back within a day or two.

PositiveAttitude · 21/11/2010 19:59

Thanks again,

OnlyJoking, after a week, do you think they would have called me? The consultant told me that he was sending it away for a "full test" as he didnt want to cut it open and do a quick one on the day. When I asked if he would have the results sooner he said probably not due to the weekends and he would probably have to phone for the results on the 29th when I am seeing him.
I am really not worried, though. He got it all and am confident that it is ok. I am assuming you have a sixth sense if it is going to be bad news. (???*???!!!!) Hmm

No, quite the opposite, I think it will be good news, bad news always gets rushed throu, we were told results would take at least a week, but we got a phone call the very next morning.
You will get good news I'm pretty sure of that.

dwardle · 22/11/2010 16:49

Hello
Are you feeling a bit better every day?

PositiveAttitude · 22/11/2010 18:33

Hi Dwardle, yes feeling better again today and have managed to do a little more today. How are you and how is your "new" job? DD3 is limping along, doing ok and denying any illeffects!! Nothing new!!

Thanks Onlyjoking

Hi ladies, I know this is a very old post, but I wanted to ask you where you went and what consultant you had for the removal of your parotid gland. I need the same and I am at a loss. I have a very thin face and I have been told I will have nerve damage! You are all so brave and wonderful. I was hoping for a few words of wisdom and knowledge as to where to go. Xx

emmathedilemma · 14/02/2020 19:24

I had a benign tumour removed from my parotid gland a few years ago. Had stitches round my ear and then staples all the way down the side of my neck afterwards. They didn’t particularly warn me about nerve damage but I have a persistent first bite pain so clearly have some damage. Tried all sorts of drugs for it but they all had worse side effects than the pain they were to cure (and they didn’t particularly work). I have a scar but it’s well hidden in the creases of my neck and people tend not to notice it unless I point it out. The worst bit was eating afterwards, I had to cut everything up very small as I couldn’t open my mouth very wide and chew very slowly!
