Just in case anyone is interested in my neck lump, here's an update.....

I know a few of you lovely ladies were watching my thread about 5 weeks ago about my neck lump, so here's an update:

After the good MRI results I went back to the consultant, who had one feel and disagreed with them!!! Shock The lump had grown rapidly and should not have done, so I had a biopsy taken. 2 weeks wait only to be told it had failed. A second one taken with an ultrasound for guidance and I had a call last week to say that it had come back "inconclusive" Angry

So I asked to be referred to another consultant who I went to yesterday. He seemed a really nice guy and far more knowledge about this than the last one.

I have a rapidly growing tumour in my left parotid gland. The bit I can feel is just the edge of it and it looks huge on the scan pictures!! He was very honest and said that at the moment (well the scan was 17th September) the pictures show no "leakage" to connecting tissues, so it looks benign, but he wants to treat it as "suspiscious" until it is out and has been tested fully, especially due to the rapid growth. So I am waiting for a date for "urgent" surgery, which apparently should be within the next 6 weeks.

Its been a tough few weeks, but now I feel more relaxed knowing that something positive is being done and I have an ending in sight for this. I had wanted to avoid surgery, but it is the only way out now, so the sooner it is done the better and I can move on withb life. If it is malignant, then I will cope with that when/if I have to.

Thanks for all your support and positive vibes!! Grin

Moan away (you are as usual NOT moaning)!

I can understand feeling that you just want something to happen now, to get onto whatever the next stage is.

Have you googled new faces to show to the plastic surgeon? (feeble attempt at a joke, ignore me if I'm being crass).

thinking of you.

jamaisjedors · 09/11/2010 18:30

Not that there's anything wrong with your face (quickly checks fb to see Grin)!!!!

PositiveAttitude · 09/11/2010 18:33

JJ - Grin quite a lot wrong with my face, but its the only one I have. A few less chins may be good, but I fear it may only be one side, so I will have to turn my left side to everyone to look glam!! Or just give up!!!

PA, hang on in there. 4 short (ok, probably very long) days to go. It's Tuesday night, so tomorrow is Wednesday. Which is almost Thursday. Which is very, very nearly the weekend (it certainly used to be the start of my weekend when I was a free and single 20-something Grin).

Thinking of you and hope all goes well on Saturday xxx

PositiveAttitude · 10/11/2010 04:53

Thank you Rindercella. I have a "busy" few days, too. (As much as I ma up to being busy!!!) DD2s 18th birthday today, which will be lovely. DD1, who lives away is travelling to see us tomorrow, so will have her here on Friday. I ma sure it will go fairly quickly now.

Is it today or tomorrow?

Let us know how it went.

PositiveAttitude · 12/11/2010 14:56

I am going in at 7am tomorrow morning. Surgery some time tomorrow. At the moment I am remarkably calm and have been more nervous about going to the dentist in the past!! Hmm Hopefully I will stay like that.

I will post here when I get home, probably not til Tuesday next week.

Thanks Smile

I hope the op went well Positive Attitude and that you are home feeling better. I hope you don't mind a stranger jumping onto this thread but thought I would tell you that
I had exactly the same operation for a tumour in the parotid gland 7 years ago. Thankfully it was benign (the 2 weeks waiting for the results were the longest of my life).

I have had no damage to the nerves in my face, although something weird happens to my neck when I eat something sharp/tangy (think it may be something to do with saliva production).

I had a couple of weeks recovering from op, but within a couple of months the scar was hardly visible - cleverly done to look like a natural crease in my neck. Like someone said, my c-section scar is much much worse!!
If you would like more info, please ask!
