Work was usual carp.

Feeling a bit weird - have been catching up with some friends from my degree course on FB.

It seems that not only have they all kept in touch over the years, but they all have fabulous interesting jobs as well. Feel a bit like - this is what your life could have been like.

I'm sure it's just a case of the grass being greener, but I look at my grotty house and crappy job and think, well, I don't know.

That I want an interesting fatastic job I suppose.Just feel like the only one not invited to the party.

Saf, I have no experience and I'm not qualified to do anything.

I think it's just shocked me that I thought I was happy as a SAHM, but turns out I'm maybe not.

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 16/08/2010 20:44

Besides, all the things I would love to do career wise sound like something a 7 year old would come out with.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 16/08/2010 20:44

Bitter, remember that on FB people really do "spin" their lives.
Most of em aren't as happy/rich/popular as they make out, I guarantee it.

I never put on "My ass is saggy, my cellulite reaches my knees, have just argued with DH, my kids are feral and I have no money in my bank account" for instance. Just banal crap about enjoying the sunshine Wink

You can get back the career you want when you want it, am sure, you do come across as very capable, as SAF says.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 16/08/2010 20:48

Cheers Lizzy, I barely feel capable of stringing a sentance together tbh.

Is that where I'm going wrong then? You have just posted, verbatim, my last status update. Wink

Spin your life, baby Grin

I know how you feel though, I saw the photos of a girl I was in Uni with earlier and her house is HUGE and gorgeous.

But she always went to lectures when I was in bed sleeping off hangovers and she married well Grin

Hello lovely Lighter ladies! Sorry I disappeared again, I've been being busy and stuff (ish)

Not losing any weight and lack of toddler groups last week had me feeling a little hermitty, but we've had a nice weekend. Smile

How are you all?

Bitter, it's really not too late. There are very few jobs where youth is an essential attribute, even then there are ways to approach it.
I sometimes feel jealous of mates out on the town, or with all-consuming jobs, but I don't think I'd really enjoy it, more that I feel like that is the life I'm supposed to want, iyswim.

TotalChaos · 16/08/2010 22:32

bitter - like double I also had a suited and booted proper sort of job, which I jacked in for various reasons after I had DS. the colleagues I dealt with in that job were proof that working in a "respectable" job does not make people any more interesting or worthwhile.

TotalChaos · 16/08/2010 22:40

hello wasting! hope you find stuff to do during the week before the schools go back, if we have some decent weather that will make things easier.

I don't get facebook envy per se, as so much of it is what is on there is image control, people putting what they want to put out there iyswim, but I do confess to being jealous of one classmate of mine, who has a PhD, medical career and 2 kids Envy.

wastingaway · 16/08/2010 23:02

Surestart sessions are still on in hols, but were closed for training last week. Can't wait to get him into other toddler groups in September!

PHDs make me very Envy

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 16/08/2010 23:04

Thanks lovelies.

It's not that they are presenting these wonderful lives as such.

I guess it's a combination of these being the people I spent the best three years of my life with, photos of nights out like those we hadbut without me, envy that they have kept in touch with each other and not me,and the fact they have all got the types of jobs we did the degree for in the first place!

Makes me feel not good enough I guess. I'll get over myself, don't worry.

children do put a dent in the social life, like it or lump it. I do sympathise, my uni friends gravitated to London and seem to have a glamourous life - those with the "careers" do work unenviable hours by and large. more than one way to skin a cat - your time will come bitter.
