Ed Davey: what do you think?

TERFCat · 13/06/2024 15:08

I really like him! He's full of character and energy. I love his commitment to carers too.

I can't vote Lib Dem due to their misogyny sadly, but I wish I could vote for Ed!

He's very likable and relatable.

Newgirls · 13/06/2024 15:27

Seems intelligent and normal. I don’t think of Lib Dems as misogynistic - we have an excellent female Lib Dem MP.

KohlaParasaurus · 13/06/2024 15:28

I don't like him at all. Partly rationally because he said, "Quite clearly, women can have a penis," and partly irrationally because something about him reminds me of the repulsive Chris Huhne.

He doesn't know what a woman is. He also thinks that men can somehow be women.

How is that not detrimental to women's rights?

I like him. Creative campaign. And I will be voting for him - although I’m in a dead safe Labour seat.

BaleOfHay · 13/06/2024 15:51

My only thought is, where is he?

I am not a hard left not a hard right voter. Very much middle ground, which I suspect lots of people are. Neither of the main parties cater for me these days. I'd be easy pickings for a motivated LibDem party, but I never see them anywhere! Just like the Brexit debate. SO disappointing.

Really hard for the 4th party to be heard or get air time. I think that’s why he’s gone for the campaign…. The only way to get picked up by the media.

pizzaHeart · 13/06/2024 15:55

I missed his stance on who is woman but can I remind you kindly that he was a part of coalition government and voted for raising students fees whereas the promise not to raise fees was their pledge and the only reason why they’ve got so many MPs in 2010.
I do believe what he is saying about carers, from my own experience you feel very differently when your child goes closer to 16 . At the beginning you are much more with rose tinted glasses.
So overall I don’t mind him being a MP but I would prefer someone’s else to be their leader.

Newgirls · 13/06/2024 16:00

I think they are trying to be inclusive rather than detrimental to women’s rights. I don’t think any party or even individual has got this issue right yet.

BardsAreAssholes · 13/06/2024 16:01

I couldn’t pick him out of a line up - in fact, it was only because DS2 mentioned him yesterday that I remembered the name of the Lib Dems leader. He’s not exactly been a powerful presence in the media.

They shafted women good and proper, take hefty donations from those with a financial interest in putting teens on puberty blockers and allowed the disgraced Challonner into the party.

Newgirls · 13/06/2024 16:01

Student fees - I have two students I hear you. But I think Torys held the power then and lib Dems got all the flak

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/06/2024 16:02

Has he said if his mum would have been happy with a male carer who was pretending to be a female carer?

VinnieVanDog · 13/06/2024 16:28

Awful. Shifty and superficial, I wouldn't touch him or his party with a bargepole.

Bushtika · 13/06/2024 16:33

His part in the Post Office scandal was shameful. He refused to meet Alan Bates and continued to take a huge payment for advising the Post Office. Thousands signed a petition for him to be sacked as an MP

Sir Ed Davey

Ed Davey was advised to meet Post Office campaigner Alan Bates to avoid bad publicity

The now-Lib Dem leader was advised as postal minister in 2010 to meet Alan Bates for "presentational reasons".

Who are you voting for instead?

SueBridehead444 · 13/06/2024 18:23

I met him a few weeks ago (I had a thread on here) and he was most unpleasant.

Totally uninterested in women's rights at all, and was quite disagreeable and also confrontational to me.

I quoted him what he had said on Radio 4 a couple of years ago, but apparently it was 'out of context' - it wasn't.

If you are interested in women's rights at all I would definitely not vote for them.

ginasevern · 13/06/2024 18:33

I never liked him very much and then the Post Office scandal was revealed and that was the end of that.

Mimilamore · 13/06/2024 18:37

He has come across well with real life experiences of several issues that are important to so many. Would like to vote for him but alas this would increase chances of the Tories getting back in and I'd rather walk into the sea than that

endofthelinefinally · 13/06/2024 18:41

He cares nothing for safeguarding children. Accepts way too much money from the company that makes puberty blockers, the same drugs given to Alan Turing and currently used to sterilise autistic and vulnerable girls.
Not somebody to whom I would give my vote.

WinterMorn · 13/06/2024 18:48

He has made an absolute fool of himself over the last few weeks and it’s impossible to take him seriously. Don’t we deserve some grown up politicians for a change?

GasPanic · 13/06/2024 20:20

The Lib Dems should be the third party holding the Tories and Labour to account.

Instead we have Farage.
