I need a new phone as mine is old and knackered with a cracked screen
I make some calls and text but that's about it

I could just get a new Nokia but will I regret not getting an iphone (esp as DH has just got one)

All thoughts welcomed

There is a version 4? Ooooh

EldonAve · 12/04/2010 20:21

this morning I'd decided not to bother
then ended up looking up some info online on DH's while out which was handy

Pheonix - To expand or decrease the screen you can tap on it but it didn't always work for me so put 2 fingers in the middle of the screen and pull them apart to make it expand or put 1 finger at the top and 1 at the bottom and bring thm together to decrease.

Hope thats legible

I will be jumping on the iphone bandwagon as soon as the 4g appears. A big jump, afer slating the original! Is it definitely available in July Rockbird? The (supposed) leaked prototypes online look pretty impressive.

Dh read somewhere the other day that it had been delayed from the release of the iPad but i can't find it anywhere. The things i've found say release could be mid 2010.

redroof · 18/04/2010 19:18

I'm sure I read somewhere that the original release date was Feb/Mar 10.
I meant the 'concept' 4g photos look impressive, not the recent 'leaked' photos.
I'm wondering if these delays and photos are for publicity purposes; intrigue and interest gained. Oh, the suspense!

I don't think I can wait for the version, I need a new phone asap... back to leaning towards a Nokia instead

The update in the summer is software only I think.

If you do go for it, get an 18 mo contract not a 2 year one. The extra expense is worth not being locked in for another 6 months.

Love love love mine, surprised at how much I use it!

EldonAve · 19/04/2010 20:33

rumour has it the phone is different here

Well I'm just waiting for my new phone. I think I got a pretty good deal - 32Gb 3GS phone - free,(re boxed so not brand new), 500 mins and unlimited texts and web access, £35 a month on a 18m contract.

Now just got to wait until DHL turn up with it - could be a long wait going by their past records!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/04/2010 14:35

Got mine on Tuesday and think it's fab!

But I was surprised at how quickly the battery runs down. Just have to get into the habit of charging it up every night I suppose.

Now I need to sort out a car cradle/charger.

A phone is a phone, I have a Samsung D500 it does the job, I was thinking of getting an internet phone until my fiancee got one and I found out mobile internet it very limited.

If it makes calls, texts and has a decent camera on it thats it, you don't need anything else.

And this is coming from someone who has 2 Wiis, 3 360s, 3 DSs, 2 PSPs, 5 GBAs, 2 PS2s, 3 MP3/MP4 players and many other gadgets.

WebDude · 23/04/2010 18:28

Hell Ryoko, was it you that emptied the last container before Christmas of all the goodies bound for the shops ?

I know I counted a dozen PCs in the garage the other day, but they're mostly ones I was given, not shiny new gadgets that cost hundreds apiece!

(Mind you, the amateur radio gear I collected in the 80s was hundreds apiece, and it took longer to earn those hundreds back then!)

WebDude · 23/04/2010 18:29

BIWI - have seen suggestions to turn off wi-fi and perhaps other things if you don't need them all day, to save battery a bit.

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/04/2010 18:37

I might try that webdude.

It's a bit like going back to the early days of mobile phones, having to charge it daily!

Goodness only knows how quickly the battery must run down if you're using the iPod function.

Ryoko · 23/04/2010 20:25

WebDude I love my consoles, not my fault they keep making special edition ones and redesined models they will be worth something one day.

Actually my Zelda GBA and Final Fantasy PSP are all ready worth more then I paid for them

RustyBear · 24/04/2010 10:03

To prolong battery life turn off 3g, location settings, push email and Bluetooth if you're not using them.
But the biggest battery saver that doesn't stop you doing stuff is to turn the screen brightness down - mine is less than half the maximum and it's fine unless I'm in very bright sunlight.

The new 4.0 software is bringing folders for apps and multitasking among other things, but apparently some of the new features will only work on the 3GS not the 3G.
There have been rumours of a new phone - someone supposedly found one that had been left in a bar in the US; it may be true, the 3.0 software upgrade came at the same time as the 3G phone.

varicoseveined · 26/04/2010 15:15

I love this phone, the HTC Desire

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 27/04/2010 12:54

I've been thinking about getting a HTC Desire as well but I think the battery life is even worse than an iphone. Plus I worry that there won't be as many good apps.

Am waiting for the summer when new iphone with a better battery and a better camera is meant to be out.
