I need a new phone as mine is old and knackered with a cracked screen
I make some calls and text but that's about it

I could just get a new Nokia but will I regret not getting an iphone (esp as DH has just got one)

I'd feel a right idiot going in there and it not working. Any other apps we should be getting?

SoupDragon · 10/04/2010 21:29

the Moron Test is quite amusing...

Phoenix · 10/04/2010 21:55

I've been after an iphone for months and i finally got one last Wednesday. I JUST LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT

I need to buy an itunes card though to buy more pointless Apps

EldonAve · 10/04/2010 22:46

DO IT!!!

Spidermama · 10/04/2010 23:17

You will get two sorts of people on this thread.

Those with iPhones will say, 'Do. It.' 'I didn't realise how incomplete I was before I got my iPhone' and 'I would just DIE without my iPhone'

and those with no iPhones who say, 'Don't get one. You'll end up like one of those losers who's always fiddling with their gadgets and slowly losing the power of RL conversation.'

I got my iPhone two days ago and love it! Upgraded from a blackberry which I really didn't like. Go for it!

nannyj · 11/04/2010 08:12

Too true Spider i have to stop myself checking my emails and facebook when with other people......but still get one

seeker · 11/04/2010 08:19

If other members of your family have iphones you can get an app called HeyWay - so you can tell each other where you are! Great fun - when dp was in the States he was travelling around a lot and he sent us his location every time he remembered. It was great finding the places on a bit map!

And there is a brilliant quiz/puzzle app very unfortunately called The Moron Test.

MerlinsBeard · 11/04/2010 09:41

Which blackberry did u have hula?

Hulababy · 11/04/2010 17:48

I had a Blackberry Pearl

Phoenix · 11/04/2010 20:26

I had a Blackberry Curve and i have to say i didn't like mine either and put it on Ebay after a few month and went back to my old Samsung phone. I defo love my iPhone and have already boxed my samsung up ready to go on Ebay

Housemum · 11/04/2010 20:52

Lurve my iPhone - silly apps include Sheepstacker, a free one and great for kids (and you) to while away time dropping sheep on top of each other.

The Impossible Quiz (which has been on MN several times) is available as an app - think it was 60p.

It's just so easy to use and after all, it is an iPhone. But DD1 (she's 17) is eyeing up an HTC phone which is on the android platform for apps, as it has a much better camera. The iPhone camera is OK but not great.

Hulababy · 11/04/2010 21:01

Think iPhone camera is only about 2 megapixels or something isn't it? But then I didn't chose it for the camera. I already have two good cameras which I use, so that aspect was irrelevant to me.

I love the Apps o the iPhone. the Blackberry apps were just rubbish on the whole.

Hulababy · 11/04/2010 21:02

And being able to set my Sky+ to record when I am out and about and have forgotten is fab - just sorted that one out today; 'tis great.

EldonAve · 11/04/2010 21:04

DH's new iphone is 3 megapixels

Not convinced I will embrace the apps etc - facebook and email access is tempting but I am mainly at home so can just use a regular pc

Mine may be too then - only for it Thursday. Not checked - just remember someone mentioning it before. It is not massive quality anyway.

I am liking the aps, and the internet is so much easier than on my old Blackbery. If I need to uickly check something I will use my iPhone instead of turning the laptop on.

nannyj · 11/04/2010 23:04

I've just worked out how to make the page bigger or smaller was having trouble using mumsnet without an app.....tis a big moment for me

Phoenix · 11/04/2010 23:10

Oooh nannyj tell me how please cos i haven't worked that out yet (my excuse is i've only had it since Wednesday )

HinnyPet · 11/04/2010 23:32

Tap tap on the screen and it shrinks or expands the screen.
You need an iPhone.
Love, love, love mine!

Disadvantages are that the battery life is not that good, you need to charge it every night. If you turn off push emails Your battery would last longer.
It doesn't fit in pocket of skinny jeans.
The games are addictive (esp. Bejeweled) so the battery life gets run down a bit more each time you play!
You need the up-down protective flip case, not the open book case. You need a protective screen (they are a bugger to get on without air bubbles!)

Advantages... Hmm. Better than any phone I've ever had. Battery charges in an hour.
IPod fab.
Pictures really good quality (was amazed by that)
you definately need one!
Phone fab.
Phone fab.

And I have typed this on mine ......

Ellokitty · 11/04/2010 23:48

Yes, Get one.

I am totally not a gadget woman, and protested loudly when my hubby got his, but now I have mine I love it. I take it everywhere, and it does everything.

I have a cradle in the car, so it works as a fab sat nav, plays music, entertains my children (the kids' games are great!), ocado, dictionary, I even have the Bible stored on mine (I am a RS teacher, so am allowed ). It really is fab, and so much more than just a phone. There really is nothing like it!

Hulababy · 12/04/2010 13:07

I charge my iPhone every night, but then I found I had to do that with my Blackberry anyway.

Have got the iPhone linked via Bluetooth to my car again now, so can dial through the steering wheel. It is really easy to turn Bluetooth on and off I have discovered.

MmeLindt · 12/04/2010 13:13

Everyone should have an iPhone, best gadget ever.

I have my favourite music on it, and use it as an iPod. Fits into our docking station/speakers and charges at the same time. Also have a cable thingy for the car, it hooks up to the FM radio frequence so that you can listen to your music in the car.

You can download Kindle for iPhone, and synch with your Kindle (if you have one) so you are never without reading material. Having Kindle on my iPhone is what made me decide to get a Kindle.

Hulababy · 12/04/2010 14:56

Oooh, have managed to get it synced with my Outlook calendar and contacts now. And realsed that now the mail is done properly it has all my saved mailboxes on there which is handy for holiday confirmation stuff, and discovered that is syncs my favourites/bookmarks from IE with Safari Loving my new gadget :D

Rockbird · 12/04/2010 15:00

I've had an iPhone since launch in 2007. Am on my third model (upgrading not faults) and am eagerly awaiting version 4 in July. I will never have another type of phone ever again.

Do it.
