IT people tend to think they are crap not up to much.

ra29needsabettername · 26/03/2009 20:02

I have one of these (am on it as we speak). I've had it since christmas and so far so good!

PurplePillow · 26/03/2009 20:03

There also seems to be a problem with the casing cracking just above the hinge on some http://www.fixya.com/support/t246499-stiff_hinge_pin Acers

PurplePillow · 26/03/2009 20:04

try again

Hassled · 26/03/2009 20:04

I had an Acer - I had a real problem with overheating (I tend to have it on my lap on the sofa, and that blocked the vents, which were awkwardly positioned - on a hard surface it would have been fine).

So what make would you recommend?

OP posts:

Overheating wouldn't be a problem cos my Toshiba one did that and i bought a tilty stand for it to let the air out.

We had one before this Toshiba laptop.

A computer-minded friend recommended it and it was great until the hinge went. It still works but is held together with gaffer tape so is only used in dire emergencies

ra29needsabettername · 26/03/2009 20:19

As I said mine is fab

Hulababy · 26/03/2009 20:19

Almost all laptops will overheat is on your lap - they need to be on a flat surfact so that air can flow underneath them. Most laptops say this in their instructions.

I have a Compaq laptop and have been very leased with it.

Just gt DD an Acer netbook. Only tested it once so far - birthday not for two weeks - and the IT guys at DH's work have put software, etc. on it. So far so good. It looks fab - all shiny and pink

Probably a bit late but I have 25 Acers of various ages at school & I'd say they're a bit like the little girl with a curl -when they are good they are very very good but when they are bad they are a pile of crap horrid.

We have a few which have never given any trouble, but we've now changed to Toshiba or HP after having four of the same model with very bad overheating problems (and when they were on a teacher's desk, not a lap) and a frustrating experience with a laptop which had to be sent back 5 times within 2 months, twice because after they fixed the fault they sent it back with the wrong operating system.
