I hate computers, really!

InternetHelp · 28/06/2008 15:55

they are horrible devil-sent things

RustyBear · 28/06/2008 15:56

Whereas now if your MIL reads over your shoulder she'll see that you don't trust her....

What does the signal strength say? - it's possible for it to be connected but the signal is so low it can't actually get on to the internet.

Kbear · 28/06/2008 15:56

press ~~##~~##~~## then turn around three times, touch your toes and that should do it.

copingvquietly · 28/06/2008 15:56

ok im just trying to think.

Nighbynight · 28/06/2008 15:57

Try checking that the properties of your internet connection are the same as those on your MIL's pc?

InternetHelp · 28/06/2008 15:58

Rusty!

Grin
InternetHelp · 28/06/2008 15:58

signla strength is "good"

InternetHelp · 28/06/2008 15:59

how do i do that nigh?

badgermonkey · 28/06/2008 16:00

I had this on DH's work laptop. Turned out it was configured to use a proxy server to connect - I went into Internet Options (in Control Panel), clicked Connections -> LAN settings and checked the Automatically Detect Settings box. That fixed it for me.

Nighbynight · 28/06/2008 16:01

In Internet Explorer, go to Extras, then choose Internet Options, and the Connections tab. You get a list of connections in a white box. Highlight yours, and click another button, something like "Properties" in English, I think.

Anyway, what's shown on your computer should be identical to what your MIL has on hers.

I had a similar problem recently, my computer was searching for a proxy server that wasn't even there.

copingvquietly · 28/06/2008 16:02

can you go into the control panel then into network and internet and do a repair.someone say if im wrong but thought it may be worth a try?
