What should I do if I have reason to believe my email account is not working?

I have 2 email accounts one with a hotmail address and one with a blueyonder address. Both seem to be faulty.

First the hotmail address stopped working but seemingly only between my best mate (Paperchain here on MN) and me. I could receive emails from other people and send emails to her, but her emails to me suddenly stopped working.

Now my blueyonder address seems to be not working. PC was trying to send me emails yesterday that were not getting through, and someone here on MN said they had catted me but I have not received that either.

Just now, I emailed my blueyonder address from my hotmail address and nothing came through.

I am less bothered about the hotmail address which I only have for MN. But my blueyonder address is my main means of contacting people. What do I do about it? Is there some way of checking it? Someone to phone?

No I did not get it Littlelapin. Not had anything now since 2:30 yesterday.

Ummm, techy questions don't register with this old brain of mine. When I click on the email icon on the desktop (?) a window pops up saying Outlook Express if that answers your question.

can you go on to mail and check your setting it wil run a check for you

how long has it not worked for because sometime the blueyonder goes down for a while

DumbledoresGirl · 20/05/2008 09:25

Thanks, I will have a look at those links in a mo.

First to answer peanutbear: I last received an email to my blueyonder address at 2:30 yesterday afternoon but I cannot know how many (if any) emails I did not receive before that. If blueyonder sometimes goes down, has anyone else with a blueyonder account noticed anything wrong?

it! The blueyonder link won't let me in unless I know my password. Which I don't. So I ask for a reminder to be sent to me (that will be interesting since my inbox is not working) and they tell me I have never set up a password before and need to contact them. But how?!

Will have a go with hotmail now.

Humph! Got nowhere with hotmail either (though less bothered about that account as it is mostly still working). Dh not replying to me on msn either. And if no-one speaks to me here either, I will know I am cut off from the world, all alone and free to make whoopee!

Have you tried checking all your internet settings by going into the Tools, then accounts and then properties section of Outlook?

I'm with virgin media and they list all the correct settings on their webmail page.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/05/2008 09:42

Whilst you're trying to sort this out, I'd set yourself up a gmail account. Most reliable one I've ever had I think.

Cod!

Bugger it. This is not a day for women's liberation. Sorry to let the side down, but dh is home tonight (rareity) and I am going to let him sort this one out. I am switching off and going to go and do something 10 times more fulfilling, aka the ironing and some gardening.

Oops, meant to say, thanks for trying to help. When one day computers take over the world, don't say I had anything to do with it!

OK, so the 2 emails I sent from my hotmail account to blueyonder have not arrived which means it is working somewhat..

Littlelapin, did you email me direct last night or via CAT? Maybe if via CAT then MN has just not got round to forwarding the emails?

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 20/05/2008 09:52

That should say have now arrived

It told me I had never set up a password before. I can well believe this as dh set up this account for me.

I usually know my password.

I don't think we have a family account.. maybe we do, I don't know. All I know is dh, myself and our 2 oldest children have a blueyonder email address each.

Ah thank you. So now I have the excuse of asking dh to sort it tonight!

dumbledoresgirl - that's interesting - I've been having problems getting emails on blueyonder for the past 24 hours. Messages I know have been sent (because people have told me on facebook) have not arrived. I've not even had the usual junk. Perhaps there is a problem at their end?

DumbledoresGirl · 20/05/2008 10:11

I am hoping so unquietdad. Well, I say that, meaning, if the problem is their end, they will know about it and sort it, right?

UnquietDad · 20/05/2008 10:12

I've found that Blueyonder is 99% reliable but when it goes down, it goes down totally.
