don't panic, you can probably start it in safe mode. (trying to think how)

tissy · 20/02/2008 15:41

have you backed up any of the photos onto cds?

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 15:42

Can you google the exact error message you are getting and see if there is any help on forums etc?

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 15:43

No tissy. I never got round to it

Don't panic, my laptop did this a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea how to fix it but the IT technician at dh's work retrieved every single one of my photos. So they are not gone for ever. I'd advise not fiddling and taking it to someone who knows about puters.

(then back up all your photos!)

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 15:44

Oh god, why am I such a useless prick

I should have backed them all up

ok, so when you've sorted it, that's the first thing you do...

do you have a local computer shop? I'm sure someone with techy knowledge could sort it in a trice.

What version of windows was it?

Sheiky, just calm down a second, I had this problem and restored my PC to factory settings losing ever picture of DS from birth to 16months and tons of DD, the next day I spoke to my friend who could have got them back for me [twat]

Try getting a CD copy off ebay or asking if anyone on here has one, I'm sure if anyone has it they'll happily let you borrow it.

Just don't do anything that will wipe the pc cos then they will be lost. Right now they aren't.

VictorianSqualor · 20/02/2008 16:03

Something like this might help, just wait until someone who knows exactly what you need comes along and then get it, until then don't touch the pc.

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 17:16

fucky fucky fuck

have CD hopwe will work and that I donlt wipe all data

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 17:53

PortAndLemon · 20/02/2008 18:00

Go to local computer repair shop. Someone will be able to sort it out for you, almost certainly.

pedilia · 20/02/2008 18:08

PC World have a PC repair service, you just tske it in!

For future reference you can back up all your photos to Photobucket or Flickr.

Hope you get them back

SlightlyMadSecretSoundWinner · 20/02/2008 18:09

Right.

You need to calm down.

Your operatin ystem sounds broken t hat is just a program.

Your hard drive and the files on it will all be fine. You just need to access them.

Find a computor guru in RL and if they can't fix your acrtual PC there is a v good chance they will be able to take your hard drive out, hook it up to another PC and recover all of your files.

SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 18:18

god, I could cry

OP posts:
SheikYerbouti · 20/02/2008 18:20

I do have a mate who can get the files and stuff, but I just feel so fecking stupid that I have let this happen, when I could have just backed everything up

I have about 200 albums worth of music on there. How the fuck will I get all that onto p CD??
