I'm damned if I can master the cut and paste thing on a MacBook and would be eternally grateful if someone could talk me through it...sort of the 'Janet & John post a link" version Luddite emoticon

you do exactly what is says on the tin, down there, to your right under Links

I'm on an ibook and it works for me

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 13:35

Thanks suzywong, but I really meant for other websites.Mn is straightforward. I am on another forum and am having a devil of a job getting the sequence right.
I managed to copy the page but how do you send the copied page to the place you want it posted?
Look, I am ENORMOUSLY ignorant about these things.

otherwebsites?
what are those?
I could ask mac wiz dh but then I think he would make me rub his feet and I just can't be arsed (it's evening time here and we are relaxing on the chaise longue)

hope someone more useful comes along soon

Cappuccino · 18/02/2008 13:42

I don't understand and I am on a mac

you just cut and paste

obv you are wanting to do something far more complicated than that?

Brangelina · 18/02/2008 13:42

Apple key + C, then apple key + V.
I do the same on the PC, only using Control instead of the apple key (I'm a Maccie at heart and have never got the handg of right clicking).

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 13:46

Oh God, here we go....Which is the Apple key?

OP posts:
Brangelina · 18/02/2008 13:49

It's the third one in from the right or left on the bottom row. Got an apple symbol on it. It's actually called the command key but I've always known it as the apple key.

suzywong · 18/02/2008 13:50

it's the fourth one in on mine

Cappuccino · 18/02/2008 13:51

it's the one with an apple on it

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 13:52

Look, I am not being funny but has it got a daisy sort of thing on it? Nothing has an apple symbol on it and believe me, I have looked.

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 18/02/2008 13:54

yes I suppose it could be described as a daisy

or you could just use the drop down edit menus

Oh my God never knew how to do that , but that des make C&P sooo much easier.
Any other little tips to get the most out of this Macbook( new and the first time with a mac)
Sorry for thread jump jeremyspants

suzywong · 18/02/2008 13:56

TITTER@daisy!!!

mine goes
fn (which I presume is function)
control
alt option
apple
spacebar
apple
enter
left arrow
down arrow
right arrow

Brangelina · 18/02/2008 13:58

Apple + O is open
Apple + W is close window
Apple + Q i quite programme
Apple + X is cut
Apple + Z is undo
Apple + Y is redo
Apple + + is zoom in
apple + - is zoom out
etc etc.

Those are just the basic ones, there are literally loads of fuctions you can do entirely from the keyboard. I love Macs

Brangelina · 18/02/2008 13:59

Should be quit programme

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 14:01

Something went horribly wrong. I tried to copy and paste a random page and sod all worked...note how there is no link attached.
I went into File, New page then googled merino sheep -as you do.
Did the daisy c, then daisy V and bugger all happened.
AND am I the only person in the world that has to note down web addresses by hand then painstakingly type them in? HAH!

dosydot · 18/02/2008 14:01

thanks Brangelina
I am slowly falling in love with them but it is a slow process. Basicall because I am ignorant of the functions

Yes, I highlighted it.
How do I send it to this page?

OP posts:
Brangelina · 18/02/2008 14:06

Jpants, is the daisy key next to the space bar? The other symbol on the apple key is kind of like a square with 4 loops at the corners (for want of a better description). Alternatively just use the Composition drop down menu at the top of the page - copy and paste is on that.

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 14:11

Yes they are both beside each other- cmd space bar cmd.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 18/02/2008 14:13

Did you click on where you wanted to paste it?

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 14:18

No. That is the bit I am having a problem with. How do you do that?
(I highlighted this page then went on to the other page that I wanted to send. Did the C then V but nowt happened. Am now officially in a state.
