My third this year

I agree that you should take it in, after mine went on fire and I chucked it I mentioned it while in the Apple store buying something else. The girl said it was a shame I'd thrown it away as they'd have replaced it had I brought it in.

LavenderRains · 11/10/2016 08:21

There are 5 people in my house. 4 have iPhones and all have cracked screens, DD is constantly buying cables and DH has just bought his 2nd cable.
I am the black sheep and have always had Samsung which I love. Never had a cracked screen, despite dropping, & cables always stay intact.
《tempts fate》
I would definitely return to apple shop op.

BunnyBunnyMooseMoose · 11/10/2016 12:33

EverySongbird, the chargers have a year warranty, they change them with no problem
The only issue I had was that the new one only came with the remaining few months' warranty, but after 95 minutes on the phone with apple now I have a letter that says that every time they have to replace my charger the warranty starts over. I'm on my fourth.

EnidButton · 11/10/2016 12:52

Never realised they would replace them. The cables really are rubbish. I'm using a very long one for my iPad atm that I bought from Curry's. Can't remember the brand unfortunately but it seems to be doing a good job so far. Need to go back for one for my iPhone as the braided one I had has stopped working after 4 months and the original one has started to do the same as OP's and is too short anyway.

Wtf are they so short? Are American power sockets higher up on the walls or something?

OutDamnedWind · 11/10/2016 12:59

I recently bought the Anker one, mainly because it's 6ft long. Anker are a good brand generally, so J have high hopes!

Mol1628 · 11/10/2016 13:05

Anker ones are better than the Apple but mine only lasted a few months.
Best ones so far have been the £3.50 light up ones from wilkos.

sparechange · 11/10/2016 13:18

I've started buying Anker ones from Amazon and they last a lot better

babyblabber · 11/10/2016 13:21

This happened to one of my chargers (although have loads between DH and I buying phones).

You need Sugru. Problem solved.

QuestionableMouse · 11/10/2016 13:22

I have an Anker cable and it's really good.

Myredrose · 11/10/2016 13:25

I haven't had such a good experience with returning a cable bought online with Apple.
It took three phone calls, then they charged me upfront, refunding after I had to package up and send the old one back in.
We get through about ten a year between us in my house.

SandyMumsnet · 11/10/2016 16:37

Hi everyone,

The OP has agreed to the suggestion that we move this thread to geeky stuff so it isn't lost. We'll be doing that shortly.

Thanks.

I bough this one today from the pound shop! At that price I don't care if it only lasts three months.

chipsandpeas · 11/10/2016 19:49

ive had 3 iphones and 2 ipads and never once had a cable do that to me

ihatethecold · 11/10/2016 19:59

I worry about cheap charging cables in case they are dodgy and catch fire.

gingeroots · 11/10/2016 20:00

aren't the cheap ones supposed to be dangerous - overheating/charging or something ?

hope I'm wrong Tartyflette ,I love a pound shop purchase !

ParadiseCity · 11/10/2016 20:02

For reinforcement I recommend a Netflix bullet with tip chopped off held in place with a rubber band.

ParadiseCity · 11/10/2016 20:02

Not Netflix!! Nerf!!!

VixenLupin · 11/10/2016 20:03

I bought the pound shop one. It didn't even last a week. Primark one lasted a day. Wilkinsons one lasted a few months. I'm spending a lot of time swearing at charger leads. If they don't break my phone tells me they are not the right one and refuses to charge. I'm in a permanent rage atm.

Oblomov16 · 11/10/2016 20:09

Bought one from Apple Store, bought them from other places. All rubbish. Disgrace really.

ihatethecold · 11/10/2016 20:14

The Juice ones seem to last quite well.
I have a funky purple one that I've had for about 6 months.
Cost about a tenner from boots, Tesco etc.
