Somethings odd about DD's iPhone storage, can anyone help?

We are going through all the things that should make her storage bigger and each time she deletes something the amount of spare storage goes down not up

Any idea what could be happening?

Is it definitely available storage & not used storage figure?

If it's photos she's deleting there is a folder in the photos app called deleted photos, to get rid of them properly you need to go into that & delete them again from there.

I don't have an iPhone & she isn't here but she says she has always done the deleted photos thing

She has 234mb left & this morning before deleting she had 412mb

That'll be great for the weekend but she is off abroad & staying by the airport tonight so just wanted to take more pics while she was away

Has she got apps waiting for updates? If there's not enough memory they won't update, but as soon as she frees memory up, they'll update unless she stops them. Look in App Store.

I had this with my iPhone. It was a right pain in the arse but the way I sorted it out was to make an iCloud backup, restore the phone to factory settings then restore it from the cloud so all the photos etc popped back on. It's something on there which drains the storage and getting rid of stuff individually seemed to make no difference.

Back it up, then wipe and restore from back up.

If you plug it in to itunes what does it say the storage breakdown is?

Does she update via itunes or directly on the phone? It downloads the back up file which tends to be huge...

She also needs to clear out whatsapp, snapchat and messenger!

I bet things are updating as she deletes photos - they won't have updated as she didn't have space and her apps are using it as it becomes available.

She needs to remove some things that clear up significant space so things can update. Does she have lots of kindle books downloaded?

Not sure if it applies to iPhones but on Android there's always cached memory which builds up that you can clear, anything like that on hers?

OK she has deleted everything except messenger (incl music) & she has 1.3gb

So she is going to download stuff/apps one at a time & see what happens? Is that the est way to do it?

I think it sould be closer to 5 than 1.3 & now it is saying there are 48 songs on there & she thought she had deleted them all & can't find them

It's a minute amount. 13.5MB is about 0.1% of the typical 16GB iPhone.
