Struggling importing pictures into Word

KatyMac · 25/04/2015 12:43

I have been using pictures in word for years but I have a new computer.

When I import them I use the picture tools 'Position' to put them where I want them to go

It's not working - do I have a setting wrong or am I being daft?

Can anyone help?

OP posts:

The screen keeps going black & it's horrid

I tend to create a single column table and put them in that

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 18:32

I've used tables before but I have random text boxes & text all over the page; I'm not sure it would work

Sounds like you may need to edit the picture before you insert.

AgentProvocateur · 26/04/2015 18:35

Insert - image - right click on image - position - in front of text - move to where you want it - then right click again - position - square with / in line with etc.

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 18:50

Done all that & it doesn't move - it's like it's broken - is there a new version of word out or something

It sti;ll works on the old computer

OP posts:
KatyMac · 26/04/2015 18:52

I've never needed to edit before

Is it definitely a JPEG? (Sorry for tone of last message - it was the only way I could remember all the steps)

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 19:34

Yes .jpg

Don't worry, I did each step 'with' you

I just don't get why it works on the other computer & not this one

I updated windows & restarted

except I use the tools on the ribbon after highlighting the picture (but I tried it on the picture afterwards actually the position field was all grey & you can't change this here)

Can you click on Wrap Text and Square? You can then move it around. Or click on the Centre icon to just put it in the centre. Or send it to me (PM me) and I'll do it for you!

ImperialBlether · 26/04/2015 19:43

I mean, I'll have a go, not that I will definitely be more successful!

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 19:50

I would love to send it to you but it's nursery stuff & OFSTED are so picky about delivering pictures of other peoples children to "strangers on the internet"

I think it's to do with this as the pictures randomly disappear

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 19:54

I should perhaps have included a Wink there - sorry so worked up with the **computer

OK I had a brain wave & saved it as a 97-03 word doc & it works

Buggered if I know why tho'

Don't suppose you know how to make a hexagon shaped text box where you can write into the corners rather than just in the middle

OP posts:
ImperialBlether · 26/04/2015 20:32

In Word?

I can have a go - will be a few minutes though as just about to eat dinner.

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 20:39

No worries I have been trying since 2008 when they decided to use a hexagon for EYFS stuff

I can get one with a rectangular text box inside but that is the best I can do

OP posts:
ImperialBlether · 26/04/2015 21:22

I don't think you can do anything else except right click, Add Text and then make sure that text is centred.

KatyMac · 26/04/2015 21:33

Me neither

Its been a while since I used it in anger, but there is an MSWord thing called WordArt that was used for writing at odd angles.

how to make a hexagon shaped text box where you can write into the corners rather than just in the middle In the past I have used this:-
Insert;Shape; Selected the shape; Then created a Text Box(s) in the location I wanted. The boxes were not locked in position and I had to change the fill colour.
May help lol

ImperialBlether · 27/04/2015 20:07

Yes, widower, but the text box is rectangular whereas the main shape is hexagonal! She wanted the text to touch each line of the hexagon.
