Hi
I would like to get a new phone preferably with 12 or 18 month contract for around £30-£40 a month. Which phone do you think is better out of the two? Know any good deals??

To be frank I think you will struggle to find a deal for £30-£40 on a 12-18 month contract.

I think only Vodafone do 12-18 month contracts now.

I'd recommend the S3 white because it's the latest phone and is utterly awesome. I am/was a complete Apple fan until my recent move to the Samsung Galaxy Note. The S3 is a souped up version of that with a slightly smaller screen.

The problem with Apple now is the phone is too small and too expensive in comparison. A while back Apple's usability and the amount of bugs in Android meant the iPhone was the best choice for most people, I think the gap has closed a lot now. It would seem Apple are playing catch up.

My biggest bugbear with the iphone was simply the screen size and speed. My 4 was painfully slow and the screen seemed tiny in comparison to modern devices.

In short I'd recommend getting the S3 which on a 2 year contract you can get for around £31 a month if you shop about online.

Samsung S3 - no question!

rainbowinthesky · 23/06/2012 11:39

Tmobile and Tesco don't work in my house. I don't know about 3 but I do know o2 works well.

Have you looked www.galaxys3contracts.org.uk/

rainbowinthesky, are you sure Tesco doesnt work in your house? As they use the o2 network,so if o2 works,Tesco should work.
niceguy2 ,to say I,m gobsmacked is an understatement, that is the first time I have seen you say anything bad against Apple.

NetworkGuy · 23/06/2012 12:39

Have recently seen problems reported but cannot recall if it was the white or blue Samsung. Will have to go back and check but thought better to post a mention here for potential purchasers to do some checks themselves too...

I phone ..... Always I phone Wink

mamjo · 23/06/2012 12:50

I have both. A personal iPhone and a work Samsung, IMO the iPhone is still much more intuitive, I do like the galaxy but it has still got the Samsung major problem... When you end a call you can't see the screen to hang up. So takes a few seconds to illuminate the screen, this had almost got me in trouble on a few occasions.
I would still choose apple but there's not much in it tbh.
Have fun with whatever you choose

rainbowinthesky · 23/06/2012 16:57

Yes, you're right. Tesco is the one that works because they use O2. Had 2 years of a contract of Orange which didnt work in my house and couldnt get out of. Don't want to risk a 2 year contract with anything other than Tesco or O2.

Now undecided between both phones as currently have small HTC that does the same thing re not being able to see screen to end call.

I had the htc wildfire and now have a samsung galaxy and have never had a problem ending a call, there has always been a button to tap on the screen to end the call.

1sassylassy · 23/06/2012 21:55

It might be that you need to go into settings and adjust the time that elapses before the screen timesout.

choceyes · 23/06/2012 22:03

There is an excellent deal on dial-a-phone for the s3. 500mb internet 500mins and unlimited texts. 31 pounds a month but you get 5 months free so works out at 24.54 a month. Bargain!

cocolepew · 23/06/2012 22:08

I have the galaxy note on o2 for £30 pm. I got a really good deal at phones 4 u. They throw in loads of freebies. They phone is brilliant

rainbowinthesky · 23/06/2012 22:15

OOh, tell me more about the galaxy note.
I dont think dialaphone do it on O2 and I would be worried about reception in my house on anything other than O2 and tesco.

cocolepew · 23/06/2012 22:25

I was asked what provider I wanted I chose o2 because Dh is on it.

Its brilliant. The screen is excellent its sooooo big
I can MN on it and read my books.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 23/06/2012 22:27

What about the new HTC? I think it's the One X. Saw one in action the other day and reckong I'll have that when I can upgrade.

Is the Samsung better? Should I have a nose at that too?

BonnieBumble · 23/06/2012 22:33

Dh is coveting the Samsung. I have the iPhone 4 - I thought it was great until
I saw the Samsung. The iPhone is just too small. Wouldn't want the Galaxy Note it's too big, looks more like an iPad.

Just looked at the Galaxy note - looks amazing, but too big for me.

So... Are Samsung's really that amazing then? I'm surprised :)
