I'm guessing it's one of these

Where would I buy one from?

ebay is the same, Amberleaf - this always happens when something desirable is discontinued.

They were £120 new iirc?

(what do CEX mean by A, B & C, anybody?)

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 17:10

I wonder why they are so desirable?

Some you can buy online, some are in their stores - they have branches all over the place and they buy and sell DVDs, games and various gadgets. We were lucky, DS2 was specific in that he wanted an orange one because he's an awkward sod and they had a reasonably priced one in one of our local branches.

A = like new, B = slightly used C= a bit battered, but they all come with a guarantee and although we've never had to take a gadget back we've had no problem taking the odd game or DVD back (we pretty much buy all of ours second hand from them)

DooinMeCleanin · 02/12/2011 17:15

You don't need a new battery. I have an old Nano. It works fine. SarahStratton very kindly gave it to me after mine sadly died Sad. It's very well loved and used daily for hours at a time and still works.

The battery on my old one is still working too it just skips songs all the time. Dd1 uses it now, she doesn't mind the random skipping.

I second CEx.

PastGrace · 02/12/2011 17:16

They have them on Amazon through their seller system. Not sure how it compares to ebay for price though

KatyMac · 03/12/2011 19:20

There are these two on eBay
here
& here

Would anyone risk it?

She probably wants the one my dd has we bought it just becasue the new one came out. It has feature on it the new one doesn;t and is generally in my opinion better than the new one.

I am trying to get hold of one for ds now.

Ponders · 03/12/2011 19:48

well fwiw the first one has a lot more seller feedback. You could get the £18.99 1-year warranty as well.

(That makes it cost the same as an A class one from CEX but although those are classed as "like new" I don't know if you get any warranty from them?)

Our local Cash Converters had a number of used ipods in the window this weekend. If there's one near you it might be worth having a look?

KatyMac · 03/12/2011 21:18

I'm leaning towards the one with the feedback

I think

We don't have a cash converters (at least I don't think we do)

I bought my first iPod nano, a 4Gb 2nd generation, from eBay for about £40. I've since replaced it with a 16Gb one and I'm nowhere near using all the space up yet Grin

If the eBay has good feedback and accepts returns, I'd go for it. Read the listing really carefully, I've seen a lot that seem quite cheap at first glance and the listings casually mention that the click wheel doesn't always work etc, but the iPod isn't listed as broken/spares/repair. A second hand one will very rarely be in perfect condition, they usually have at least some tiny scratches.

KatyMac · 03/12/2011 21:39

I'm a terrible wuss; this is from us & grandparents so it's a big deal

OP posts:
Ponders · 06/12/2011 19:15

DS2 went into CEX today & they wouldn't offer him anything on his old nano - screen is cracked, & it's very battered, quite apart from the engraving - so I don't think your DD would really want it anyway, katy Grin

he said they had a C-grade classic for £100 & a B-grade for £135 but I think we'll wait for his birthday in April now

KatyMac · 06/12/2011 20:01

Oh poor him

Maybe he should buy one 'for parts' and refurbish his

My bro gave me one of the first nanos and I just had an email from Apple telling me that the first generation had a potentially faulty battery which could burst into flames once it got old. They have sent me documents and pre-paid envelopes to send the nano back to them so that they can replace the battery.

Be careful what you get second hand.

Having said that, I've probably been scammed!

timetosmile · 11/12/2011 22:43

I've got two iPod nano 4's from ebay at approx £80 each for DS and DD. They look pristine..one of them still has the headphones and computer lead still done up in a neat twist with original wrapping..they were from 100% feedback sellers who said they were barely used/unwanted present etc...so I'm pleased!
Have tried them out btw, and no problems!

Jux · 11/12/2011 22:45

KatyMac, I've just looked at your link (jumped straight to the bottom of the thread in order to warn you of the fire risk but I now see someone already has). I got dd one of those on a buy it now on eBay some years ago. It's fine but a bit clunky in operation, the keys and clicky things are all a bit sticky, but it works fine, and dd was delighted with it. She lost it a while ago though.

KatyMac · 12/12/2011 19:21

Phew - thank goodness; I was worried
