I'm guessing it's one of these

Where would I buy one from?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 02/12/2011 15:47

Except that doesn't say it's an iPod

Confused

EBay
CEX (game exchange shop)

Would all be second-hand so you'd have risk that may not work properly, mind

Why not a new style pod?

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:02

I don't know

We have difficulty communicating.....she is 14

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 02/12/2011 16:04

My concern with buying 2nd hand would be battery life, depending on how the battery has been treated it might not run for that long without needed recharging.

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:06

Thanks BadgersPaws - That is useful to know can the battery be replaced? or would it cost too much?

Thats not an ipod nano, that will not connect to itunes. Have a look at the apple refurbs as they also come with warranty.

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:16

Recalled that doesn't sound good

They don't seem to have the old ones on the Apple website

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 02/12/2011 16:18

"Isn't that the one that's just been recalled as a fire risk? Only a week or so ago?"

Well setting aside that the picture isn't actually an iPod the iPod that was recalled wasn't the version of the Nano that the picture is trying to copy.

The recall was for the first generation Nano, this one:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KoolgiyBlackNano.JPG

"Thats not an ipod nano, that will not connect to iTunes."

You can use just about any player with iTunes, you have to drag the music out of iTunes to the player though as it won't automatically sync.

The player above even seems to claim to be an MP4 player so it will play music bought from the iTunes store without conversion. That's if the claim is right, and I'm not really sure I'd trust it...

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:20

No DD has brand angst so it will have to be an actual iPod

So I go to eBay or CEx to find one then maybe need a new battery too

I can see this costing me

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 02/12/2011 16:22

"So I go to eBay or CEx to find one then maybe need a new battery too"

You can't easily replace the battery on an iPod, it's all sealed away inside.

Apple do do a scheme where you can pay for them to do the job, various shops also offer the service and you can buy tools to do the job yourself. But it's a bit fiddly...

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:23

My I repeat "I can see this costing me"

Why can't teenagers be sensible

OP posts:
Ponders · 02/12/2011 16:37

the old Nano is a much better shape than the new one IMO

are there any recon ones on ebay?

lesstalkmoreaction · 02/12/2011 16:38

If she is 14 why not an ipod touch there are some good offers around at the moment.

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:40

this looks good expensive or good

not on buy it now though

there are some actual new ones but they're v expensive (someone had their wits about them when the new generation came out)

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:42

what is the touch?

OP posts:
Ponders · 02/12/2011 16:46

FWIW my 18-yr-old has had his nano for several years; his music has only just outgrown it & he now wants the 160GB Classic - you could get her one of those, Katymac, about £180 from Comet & she'll never fill it Grin

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:48

No she will lose it Hmm

Yes the classic is another option....but £180!!!Shock

She normally gets about £40 spent on her

OP posts:
KatyMac · 02/12/2011 16:48

Ponders - what colour is it & do they want to sell it?

OP posts:
Ponders · 02/12/2011 16:50

\link{http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_classic\£199 from Apple, engraving included}

\link{http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Apple-iPods/buy-APPLE-IPOD-CLASSIC-160GB-Apple-iPod/588849\£190 at Comet, it's gone up since I last looked}

the nanos on ebay will all end up a lot more expensive than they are atm

Ponders · 02/12/2011 16:52

I think it's orange, Katy

it's very well used! I will ask him if he wants to sell it (wouldn't be until after Chrsitmas though, & it has an engraving)

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 02/12/2011 16:55

DS2 wanted an old style iPod so we got him one second-hand from CEX. Lucky really as we couldn't have afforded a new one anyway Smile

They've got a few in stock.

Ponders · 02/12/2011 16:58

how does CEX work, MrsDTK? Do you get any sort of guarantee from them?

AmberLeaf · 02/12/2011 16:59

I cant believe the price of those nanos on CEX !!

They were not that much more when they were brand new!
