www.mumsnet.com/Talk/geeky_stuff/1337902-iPhone-software-upgrade-yes-or-no.

I use the calendar on both my mac and my phone and in the past I simply synced and both updated each other fine.

I now have "icloud" which I am not sure i fully understand, and for a while all my entries on my phone were duplicated as it was taking entries from the mac and from icloud. Now I know how to have only one lot showing (though I am unsure whether the better setting is "All from my mac" or "all from icloud")

Either way, however, what I cannot fathom is how I make entries from my iphone sync to my imac ical, not just to icloud. Can ical sync with icloud?

I put entries in the phone, then sync (or so I think) to the Mac and they get lost, but they seem to be going to icloud, not imac. I changed the settings back and forth, but it still isn't quite right.

I sound confused, because I am! What am I missing? I suspect it is dead simple, but I need a pointer please.

"Can ical sync with icloud?"

If you have the latest version of Mac OS X, Lion, then it can.

So with Lion you sync iCal on the Mac with the Cloud and also sync your iPhone with iCloud.

If you don't have Lion on your Mac then disable the Calender sync under the iCloud options on your iPhone and just let iTunes sync it as it always did.

Thanks that is exactly what I want, sync through itunes as before!

I know where i am then....

So you don't have Lion on your Mac? If you do syncing via iCloud will be really rather easy, it also means that you can access your information via a web page.

But, as said, without Lion just keep in syncing both contacts and calenders as you always used to.

I have leopard(?) I think. I am not aware that it has updated since I bought it.

"I have leopard(?) I think."

Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6)? There are rumours that Apple might be releasing an update for Snow Leopard that will introduce iCloud support, but as far as I know it's not confirmed yet.

So right now unless you upgrade to Lion then using iCloud isn't an option.

Snow Leopard, version 10.6.8 according to "about this Mac".

I'll leave it for now I think, nervous about upgrading the whole operating system as the one I have works perfectly well as it is and I've pretty much got the hang of it!

Things I'd like though, is the iMessage via Wifi which I've got switched on on my iphone, and although my phone otherwise operates down the wifi, iMessage doesn't work and I cannot figure out why. That can't be related to Lion though, as it is an Iphone/wifi issue? So not sure about why that isn't working for me...

And reminders to pop up in Ical but suspect unless/until i get Lion that isn't going to happen either!
