and I want to love it, I really do. It's better for web browsing than my smart phone so that's good. But I want more than that. I think I need good apps to blow me away. Have googled iPad apps lists and not been impressed overall.

So what do you all do with yours....?

And the lack of flash is a major pain, can't play farmville!

Dowload the skyfire browser app if you want to play facebook games.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 07:19

There is a Farmville App for iPhone. It may exist for iPad but I don't know for sure.

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 31/05/2011 07:21

I use mine a lot with the BBC iplayer app and the channel 4 on demand app. If you like music vevo is a great app.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 07:38

Oh and if you don't love it, can I have it? I'm dying for one.

Himalaya · 31/05/2011 08:00

Utterly pointless but incredibly interesting app which makes you go 'wow' about what the iPad can do is Uzu - it is an in interactive particle visualiser. It's like conducting your own Fantasia. I suspect it is designed to go with mind altering substances, but even without, put some music on, play with all the settings and have nerdy fun with specs of light.

Himalaya · 31/05/2011 08:01

Specks, even! Blush

OnlyWantsOne · 31/05/2011 08:03

Scrabble

VivaLeBeaver · 31/05/2011 08:04

Wrote a rrply saying thanks on ipad and can't post it as it says no internet. Now on phone. Its wifi only, were camping so no proper wifi. Am using my android phone as a wifi hotspot which worked last night.

If i have a wifi symbol in top left corner does that mean its connected.? When i go into settings wifi is on and there is a tick next to htc network.

-does your provider limit the amount of time that you can use the phone as a wifi hotspot?

VivaLeBeaver · 31/05/2011 08:16

I don't think so.

Just got ipad back on internet briefly but now stopped again. I suppose i do have a fair usage policy for data and i downloaded a few apps last night so orange might have done something if i exceeded it.

Bugher got wifi only as thought i could use it via my phone when out.

Got mine yesterday. Not totally blown away by it either. I think I need to find out what it can do that my iPhone can't.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 08:27

There are actually quite a few apps that are iPad only. Lakeland Store comes to mind. Along with Photoshop. I am sure there are many more.

MmeBlueberry · 31/05/2011 08:31

I doubt you would have run out of credit.

I use my iPad all day on 3G at work, and sometimes at home due to intemittant wifi, and have only used a fraction of my £10 per month allowance.

toast55 · 31/05/2011 08:33

Has anyone got a good shopping list app for iPad/phone?

MmeBlueberry · 31/05/2011 08:34

It takes a few days to get used FTP the iPad. I got mine as a Christmas present, and I was initially disappointed as all my hints were for a new laptop.

It is not a complete substitute for a computer, but I can honestly say that I fire up my laptop about every six weeks now. You do grow to love your iPad.

MmeBlueberry · 31/05/2011 08:36

I have a very simple app called shopping list. You type everything in or select it if it is already there. It presents a list by category. When in the shop, you just tap the item as you select it and it gets sent to the bottom of the list, faded out.

I just use this on my phone as it is easier in the shop.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 08:43

Toast I use Errands, which does shopping lists and todo lists in general. I really like it and used constantly for all sorts of things!

ClaireDeLoon · 31/05/2011 08:57

5gomad have you been able to get the BBC iplayer app to work? All I get when I try to watch something is 'unable to download' message.

MmeLindor. · 31/05/2011 09:16

MmeBlueberry
Some providers limit the amount of internet tethering allowed ie. how long you can run your iPad through your 3G phone.

I find that turning off and turning on often sorts out minor technical issues. Try uncoupling the iPad from phone, turning both off and on again and reconnecting.

TheHumanCatapult · 31/05/2011 09:21

mm is there a payasyou go option for wifi 3g rather than contract

MmeBlueberry · 31/05/2011 09:22

Ah, my iPad has its own sim card.

BrainSurgeon · 31/05/2011 09:26

Oh I dream about having one... don't tell me they're not fabulous... reading each word on here avidly

MmeLindor. · 31/05/2011 09:32

I took a while to get used to mine, but now love it.

Good apps:

Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, Beyond Ynth for games.

Blogshelf for reading blogs

TED talks for interesting talks on everything and anything

Guardian Eyewitness and Time for photography

Solar Walk for looking at galaxies

Right Move for property porn

oh, have a look on my blog cause I have all the links there.

The most important one is DROPBOX. You have to have this. Really good for moving data back and forth between phone, iPad and PC.

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 31/05/2011 10:08

ClaireDeLoon-yes I use it daily, I watched the Queen documentaries on it this morning, it freezes a bit so I have to press done then fast forward to the point I was at.

plupervert · 01/06/2011 20:24

I've been weighing the iPad against another tablet (this one, which has an attachable/detatchable keyboard), and I have to say that the iPad apps look rather meh, whereas the Android apps look far more useful (to allow me to work, etc.).

Neither system allows you to play things dowloaded from the BBC iplayer to play offline (which you can do on a laptop or mp4 player), and that's annoying, especially considering that an mp4 player is supposedly less techie than a tablet!

I don't really think these tablets are not worth buying yet.
