URGENT 60GB PS3 help needed!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 11:39

Got a 2nd hand 60GB PS3 off Ebay which arrived this morning.
Plugged all leads in that i think are needed (power supply and the red, yellow, white leads) but all i am getting is a blank, black screen. No menu or anything. Plugged controller in and pressed button on that and the 4 red lights just flash and go off. Tried little reset button on that. Also tried press and hold on button until 2nd bleep but it still doesn't work.
Please tell me i can fix this and that it isn't something wrong with the PS3?

Are you on the right channel on your TV?

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 11:43

I put it on AV 3 which is what the Wii automatically comes up on. I don't know what other channel i would use. Doesn't come up on AV2 either.

Did you hold the button down when it was on standby until the 3rd beep?

bubblerock · 06/12/2010 12:33

Just read that you did doh!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 12:37

Only a 2nd beep then it goes off to standby if hold it longer.

Have you tried unplugging everything - tv, ps3 etc... then switching it all on again?

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 12:41

Didn't try turning TV off. Turned PS3 off many times and re tried. Will try turning TV off tomorrow. Have packed it all away and hidden it for now until get more advice. Smile

What a nightmare though - If nothing works contact the seller and get it returned asap, did it cost much?

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 12:43

£147! Have contacted seller too and awaiting reply. Hope it doesn't have to go back. Not sure have enough time to try again!

Yikes - probably best to return it and get a new one with guarantee, DH had the YLOD on his and I had to take the thing apart to fix it. They don't seem to last at all! Sad

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 13:21

Phoned Playstation support. Had to do the press and hold twice until it did a double bleep to see if it would work then. Guess what - It didn't Angry. I am so pissed off! Combine that with DS2's present off Ebay not arriving yet and no reply to email and things are going really badly for this Christmas! Sad

Oh no - bloody arsehole Ebayer, how can they sell something broken this close to Christmas??? Start dispute asap!! Angry
Don't forget lots of shops take Paypal including ToysRUs & Hawkins Bazarre.

You need a hdmi cable to run it through some newer TV's. We discovered this last x-mas morning, much to the dissapointed of a very eager to play new games dd1.

All we got was a black screen when we tried with the red and yellow wires.

PS support has probably already checked this with you, but I thought it might be worth mentioning jsut incase.

Hope it works out.

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 18:53

They say it 110% worked perfectly. But they only ever use it on hdmi lead so i was wondering could the AV lead be faulty?

TV isn't a very new one so can't see that being the problem. Wish i could afford a HD TV lol!

Could you borrow someone elses to see if that's the problem?

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 21:09

My friend has bought her DS a brand new one for Christmas so we are going to test mine using her lead and see if that works. Her Mum has an HD TV so might be able to test it on HD too if the new ones come with hdmi lead.

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 06/12/2010 22:02

You do need a HDMI if it's been set to it there is no way to change it, so no picture will appear it's bloody stupid.

To set my 80gig one to HDMI in the first place I had to have both the AV and the HDMI connected so I could pick HDMI in the menu's and then when it switched to HDMI click the yes to keep it that way, before it timed out and switched back to AV.

I even tried doing the master reset trick we use at work that sends everything back to defaults, unfortunately in Sony's wonderful wisdom that doesn't work on retail versions all you get is a recovery menu for if you Hard Drive is buggered, thanks for that Sony.

Ryoko · 07/12/2010 12:57

It's a long shot but maybe try the master reset it might work on the old 60gig ones, hold down the power button for it to turn off, keep holding it, while the red light flashes and listen out for 3 beeps, hopefully it will be on default after which is AV connectors.

if you still see nothing it's probably gone to the hard drive recovery screen like the retail versions of the 80gig, 250gig and 320gig models do, so don't press anything on the controller just turn it off at the back.

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 07/12/2010 19:46

Thanks will try that later. Really hope i can get it working.

Ryoko Idon't get any red flashing lights when i do that. Still can't get it to work but the TV screen does flash when i reset the PS3 so i guess that shows i am on the right channel!
Off to friends with it later. Not holding out much hope of getting it working! Sad

Well when it's on green light press and hold, it beeps once then the red standby light flashes then you keep holding it and it should go Beep beep beep and go green again and turn on.

a development unit will be on defaults when it turns on after the beeps so AV signal.

80gig will be on the hard drive recovery menu that you wouldn't see.

Better hope it's a full HD, if it's been set to 1080p and the friend only has a 720p it will still not display.
