Have been doing a document for ages and ages (over the phone with a colleague)

Juts finished the final tricky bits tonight, pressed SAVE, closed it down Sad emailed it to colleague but hse has opened it up and it is the old unfinished version.

i can't find the finally-bloody-finished version

PLEASE tell me where I might find it

Sad

hello, have you checked in your email temp folder. if you open an attachment from an email and have a look where it stores it something like c: office files/email/random letters and numbers then look down the list for anything about from today

thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 22:02

hover/click over the "start" icon, it will bring your app menu up, hover over Docs, and all your recent docs will drop down in a menu, it could be there.

Alternatively do a search for it and see what that brings up.

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:02

thanks

i don't think i have a temp folder

  • i use yahoo mail

will try and look

i am beginning to PANIC

open PPT- under the file menu, is there an 'open recent' option?

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:04

it is listed there but it is the unfinished one from yesterday Sad

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:06

when we had finished tonight instead of SAVE AS I just used SAVE thinking it would overwritethe last version but it doesn't appaer to have done that

when i closed the document it didn't say "Do you want to save changes"

I HATE OFFICE 2007

OP posts:
thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 22:09

have you looked how i suggested? this sucks!

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:10

thatsnotmymonkey - yes the document name is listed there but it is yesterdays version not today's.

i feel sick

OP posts:
daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:11

but it does say last amended 29-9-10 but doesn't seem to have saved those (numerous and lengthy) ammendments

Do a search for *.ppt which should bring up all your PowerPoint files and then sort them by date.

It might be worth it to check your Sent folder and check what you attached.

Unfortunately if you have not saved the changes there's no way to get them back. Fingers crossed you can track it down.

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:13

thanks mrsgordonfreeman

i definitely saved the changes but it didn't work.

i ahve since tried adding another slide and saving it; it appaers to do it but when i open up the document the additional slide isn't there

OP posts:
daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:15

searched *.ppt and it comes up as last amended today at 21.49 which is when i saved it but it hasn't saved the changes

OP posts:
daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:18

looked in SENT folder and opened up attachment, it is the old one Sad

my only hope is cybersentinel may have captured the screen and i will be able to retype it from that.

cross your fingers for me |(and toes)

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 29/09/2010 22:19

you know you said you'd added another slide and done save?
Well if you do the same but this time do save as...
where is it saving to?

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:21

will check stealth

OP posts:
daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:23

saving to usual folder in My documents

OP posts:
thatsnotmymonkey · 29/09/2010 22:23

i am so sorry. it has happened to me too with a big word doc.

you going to have to stay up now and re-do? I hope it goes ok. Poor you!

StealthPolarBear · 29/09/2010 22:24

so if you go in there, are there any ppt files? Can you check those?
(Stupid question probably, sorry)

mrsgordonfreeman · 29/09/2010 22:26

Ugh, you have my sympathies, it's horrible when this happens.

Give the presentation a new name when you redo, and just tell yourself that this version will be even better. It'll be quicker too, honest.

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:28

stealth there is just one there - the old one from yesterday

unfortunatly it isn't as easy as typing it again cos lots of discussion preceded each sentnce; we will have to do the thinking agin, not jsut the typing

cybersentinel didn't capture anyhting

wish i had a key logger!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 29/09/2010 22:30

oh no
it MUST be there somwhere
I know that;s no help
where in the country are you?

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:32

i feel like that stealth

it MUST be somewhere

i am in NW

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 29/09/2010 22:35

:( wish I could help - but even if I could it'd be tomorrow and I guess you wouldn't leave it till then
can you do a search of your entire C drive of part of that file name and then order by date and time modified - tick show hidden files

daffsntulips · 29/09/2010 22:36

now doing advanced search, looking EVERYWHERE

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 29/09/2010 22:38

got to go to bed but fingers crossed you find it :(
