My pineapple plant is flowering!

Just wanted to share really because I’m chuffed!
It was received as a gift almost two years ago with a tiny pineapple on. After the mini pineapple went over, I thought the plant would just be leaves forever but the heatwave has stimulated it 😊
The flowers are starting to open, I wonder what will happen next!

It’s lovely! ☺️

Very exciting! Any advice?

I have a 2 year old pineapple plant which has produced lots of new pups but no new flowers. Maybe I should cut off most pups and only have 1?

Ohh interesting because mine doesn’t have any pups! Have you repotted yours to give it more room? Mine is in the original pot so perhaps no room for babies 🙈. I’ve recently started using fish mix/fish emulsion as fertiliser and it seems much happier with that compared to sporadic watering with Baby Bio

I think I gave a slightly bigger pot, not by much though. It already started growing pups when it still had a little pineapple. However, good tip re fertiliser, I'm not sure whether I've given it any at all. Thanks!

It still blows my mind that pineapples don't grow on trees 😂😂

Bananas don't grow on trees either. 😁

Very beautiful - I bought mine with a yellow pineapple on, I had no idea they had this beautiful red with purple flowers stage.

That's amazing. I can imagine how thrilled you are. Thank you for the lovely pics.

Are you 100% positive that there wasn't a tiny pup that snuck up and eclipsed the original plant and is now flowering? I ask because I have a number of bromeliads (mostly airplants) and my understanding is that each individual 'shoot' (not the right word) in a cluster will only flower once.

My airplants are big clusters now and sometimes break into flower. But they seem to do it just when they feel like it Grin. I haven't really pinned down a routine to encourage flowering. None of my other bromeliads have flowered, but I haven't had them long.

This is interesting, thank you for the info! I’ve basically watered it and ignored it, like I do with orchids when they’re not flowering 🙈 so it may well have grown another shoot when I wasn’t looking.
Do you have any photos of your air plants flowering? I had one once but didn’t get on very well with it so I didn’t even know they could flower!

Very interested in your fish emulsion. Perhaps more feeding is the way to go for predictable blooms.
