My pineapple plant is flowering!

Just wanted to share really because I’m chuffed!
It was received as a gift almost two years ago with a tiny pineapple on. After the mini pineapple went over, I thought the plant would just be leaves forever but the heatwave has stimulated it 😊
The flowers are starting to open, I wonder what will happen next!

Oh, wow. That's wonderful. I wonder if there are any conceivable circumstances in which you could grow the fruit into an edible state at home.

They like hot sun, don't give a damn about drafts but I seriously doubt you'd get one ripened in a British winter even inside. You'd need a pineapple house like they had in the Regency and Victorian times.

how is the plant OP? is it surviving the colder nights?

I am definitely no expert but mine is on a west-facing windowsill, hottest room in the house in the summer and no drafts. I think the only way you could grow an edible one in the UK would be in one of those heated greenhouses that they grow tropical plants and butterflies in

The fruit and leaves are getting slightly bigger I think. The colours are brighter in person than the photos, so the leaves aren’t as pale in real life. Seems to be happy enough with 17° overnight inside so far, and we are still hovering around 15° outside during the day
