After a long day in the garden …

What is the drink that you enjoy as you sit back, relax and review your hard work?

In the past mine would be a G and T or a cosmopolitan

However, staying at my parents house they have a vodka martini to round off a day in the garden - I prefer a gin martini and a few olives so have now defected to the martini side

Both parents are in their mid 80s and so I reckon the martini is a safe bet 😂

Aperol spritz here after today’s marathon garden session, but I like your parents style 🍸

BlancheSaysYes · 14/04/2024 18:50

I'm sipping a Mediterranean orange gin with fresh orange and lime slices, heaps of ice and a lot of tonic.

Konfetka · 14/04/2024 18:52

Decaffeinated Earl Grey tea with a splash of milk.

weeditandreap · 14/04/2024 18:52

A large glass of shiraz Wine I do love a G&T in the summer though, very refreshing Gin

Restinggoddess · 14/04/2024 19:04

I was wondering if the drink changes as per the seasons???

Also nibbles are important - as I wait for my evening meal.
I like the variety we have here already - thank you

My dad can consume a couple of large martinis and say ‘ that was a good day today’
Not bad for an 84 year old with a huge ( perfect) garden - perhaps the end of the day drink is the secret to a long and happy gardening adventure

Cheers everyone 🍸

Martini is neat gin. Vodka martini is neat vodka. Take your pick.

At this time in the evening a cup of tea. DH spent a long time weeding the shingle round the veg plot. He cut the grass yesterday. I pricked out a tray of cherry tomatoes, Italian plum tomatoes, sweet peppers, and a cucumber (only one germination) I also planted up 4 wicker hanging baskets, tidied up the bottom greenhouse which is in the veg plot. Just going to close the greenhouses, then get my tea.

Sangria.

It's got to be when it's lovely and sunny.

Even better when it's home grown fruit season and you can stick some berries in your glass to get nice and plump and marinade in it as a lovely juicy treat when you've finished your drink.

NahNeedsGarlic · 14/04/2024 21:23

Coffee today, but a glass of wine as soon as it’s warm enough to sit out in the evening.

Tintackedsea · 14/04/2024 21:27

Love a cocktail after a hard graft in the garden

Martini (gin)
Sour
Margarita
Negroni

Cheese biscuits (equal parts cheese, plain flour and butter + seasoning, chilled in a log, shape, sliced, 170 oven for 15 mins)

Perello olives

Tapenade on a cracker

Wee bit cheese

Peppadews stuffed with Boursin

Restinggoddess · 14/04/2024 21:36

@Tintackedsea - I feel a menu of drinks and nibbles may be required for this years gardening - will try the cheese biscuits

Lets raise a glass and hope for better weather

If it were a day sitting or pottering in the garden, a Negroni. After today's slog though, can't have anything because I'm too tired to lift my arms!

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/04/2024 21:47

Usually a glass of cold milk with a couple of teaspoons of ginger syrup in.

Revelatio · 14/04/2024 21:55

Depends, I love a martini, but with a twist. Olives and manchego on the side, with marinated anchovies.

But, I have recently been enjoying margaritas with a sea salt rim, blue corn tortillas and a fresh guacamole! With the late afternoon sun in your face it’s bliss!

Curlewwoohoo · 14/04/2024 21:58

Oo nice. This has never occurred to me! Need a bigger garden?!

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2024 22:00

Earl grey in a big mug.

Curtainsforus · 14/04/2024 22:33

I like a crisp refreshing lager - sometimes alcohol free if it’s mid week

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 14/04/2024 22:43

I like an iced coffee. I first stated having them in the first lockdown, never thought to have one before. I like them with a jug of sugar syrup (even though I don’t take sugar in coffee) and plenty of ice, so the glass has to be quite large or it’s gone in seconds.

I’m also partial to an ice lolly in the garden, any time of day. Sainsburys do coconut and pineapple, which is almost like a pina colada.

I'm re-thinking this as am In Melbourne so mid-autumn but still a lot of sunny days. I've re-configured the seating in my front garden which is where I do my sitting to catch winter sun. Now I need to think of an appropriate drink.
Summer - gin and tonic, deffo.
Winter......

ErrolTheDragon · 14/04/2024 23:07

Big mug or two of tea, decaf if it's after about 5pm.

I'd have a cold beer in summer if we had any in but we rarely do nowadays.

bombastix · 14/04/2024 23:10

Elderflower cordial and soda water. Refreshing

Oh that does sound good!

Yesterday I had a cider. It's one of my favourite times having a drink on a weekend afternoon or evening sat in the garden admiring my handiwork 🤣. Summer tends to be a G&T. If it's chilly, I have a cup of tea or coffee.

I love your parents' style. Cheers to them! 🍸

BiddyPop · 15/04/2024 08:07

I had a half glass of Chardonnay in front of me when I started replying - before my Dad rang and interrupted, and then my dinner was ready so I completely forgot to come back. But I am only balcony gardening now .

When I had an allotment, it was a pint of lemonade or squash, followed by G&T. And when it was just the back garden version, it was the G&T alone (possibly even having it in my hand as I wandered through and pulled a few weeds to justify it 🤣🤣)

AlisonDonut · 15/04/2024 08:12

I don't really drink [well I don't drink alcohol] and my favourites are an iced coffee or a pamplemousse and rose cordial over ice.

A bit of sugar syrup, not a jug! Can’t find the edit button.
