You should be able to toggle back to the old view.

You can change it back in settings or click the little box at the top of the thread list.

But you have to change it back every time
you open the board. Really annoying and puts me off looking at the board, on which I used to lurk daily. In the new format it takes too long to scan and see which threads are new or have been added to.

Absolutely hate it here too. I'm mostly a lurker, but was a frequent one. Now less so!

I don't get it, I thought most people accessed MN on smart phones, the screen is already small enough without making the writing giant.

Click on the profile button and choose More Settings, then Talk Settings and there's a toggle for 'OP voew'/'Condensed view'. Set it to condensed.

And it does stop it opening in a new window.

Yes, but you have to toggle back every bloody time! So if you’ve caught up on-a long thread and added a couple of replies, and hit “gardening” as a quicker way back than using the back arrow, you’re back to the new view, and have to toggle to compact view again. E v e r y T i m e

Don't do the toggle at the top of the thread. Go to your own personal profile settings - there is a permanent decision option there.

When you have the list of threads showing, the icon is a little box just under “follow topic”, at the top right.

Hit the little picture of the person at the top right, where the number of notifications appears. Settings is near the bottom of the drop down menu. May be different on the app.

IDK if this helps anyone. The instructions don't match with the actual location of the icon. You click that box with two blocky lines under "follow topic" and change it to "compact view" with the drop down.
