Hi, has anyone else been making impulse purchases recently?

I only went to my favourite garden centre for a cup of tea and came home with this (oops)

I'm not sure what to do with it yet

This is a constant state of being for me.

Today I found an Edgeworthia Chrysantha Grandiflora on the search and rescue table - and came home with it! I’m not sure where it will go either 😊

Buy paper bush Edgeworthia chrysantha 'Grandiflora'

Yes bought a bosch lawn mower, a bit more expensive than I planned. Living the dream here 😂

AlwaysAlba · 01/05/2023 18:28

Some ranunculus. Have corms in pots for first time but green-fingered neighbour says she’s never been successful with them so I thought I’d get some extra, can’t have too many.

Is this patio tree to be placed in a pot or bigger full size one? I bet it’ll look stunning either way!

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 01/05/2023 20:33

I belong to dobbies loyalty scheme ( worth doing if u have one near u ). I went for our free drinks for this month. Ended up with sausage sandwich and cake

Went for a quick nose around ( I was only there on sat so nothing new ) and bought some things for a container. I checked out the sale section but nothing good there.

JamMakingWannaBe · 01/05/2023 20:47

This weekend I have bought:

  • new secateurs
  • two new dahlia plants
  • a hosta
  • three new pots
  • two new alpines
  • several citronella candles
  • a clematis
  • an erysimum from the yellow label section

and a new compost bin.

I only popped in for some tomorite!

CatherinedeBourgh · 01/05/2023 21:32

I have found my people. I'm still embarrassed to list all my impulse purchases. I counted my houseplants recently and I had 40 (and that was before my last impulse purchase lot).

It doesn't help I had my sister visiting and she is as bad as me when it comes to plants...

roseopose · 01/05/2023 21:40

2 of these..paid £6.99 for delivery too which isn't until end June Blush On the plus side for you OP I have impulse purchased 2 prunus in the past and they have looked lovely!

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto haha no chance! I have sneaked it past my husband so get to keep it 😁

Lottieloo123 I'm not sure, that's why I don't know what to do with it, the information card is very vague. If anyone knows, roseopose perhaps, I'd be grateful for advice.

Loving everyone's impulse buys 😍

Wow, this is spectacular!

This weekend, I have somehow acquired an Acer! 🍁

roseopose · 01/05/2023 22:56

I've put mine in full sun and partial shade and they've done fine. I had one in a pot for a while too. Will take a pic of my current one tomorrow! They can get quite big. My previous one was probably 70cm - 100cm

Thighdentitycrisis · 01/05/2023 23:35

Bought orange Geums today

BarrelOfOtters · 02/05/2023 09:38

I'm terrible for picking up things to rescue from the clearance tables..many acers that way.

Also for ordering on line, forgetting about it, then having twice the bulbs I thought I'd ordered.

And I bought a Cornus Kousa Chinensis at the weekend...despite having absolutely no room for it.

MereDintofPandiculation · 02/05/2023 10:20

I do my impulse buys vicariously, by accompanying DS when he goes out buying for his garden.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 02/05/2023 17:48

You're right, that is the law. You'd be amazed at the amount of stuff I walk right past my Husband with.

Hiya, sorry to resurrect this op but I just impulse bought this exact same one and would love to see what it looks like now. Google lens found your post about it.

Bigteamug · 18/04/2025 08:50

I last went in just for Echium Vulgaris seeds - they didn't have any - and came out with another balloon lantern for the garden, three plants for £5 from the herb section, some fragrance refill for my diffuser, two birthday cards and some compost.

Instead of spending a couple of quid, I spent over £30.

I do tend to do this sort of thing a lot in garden centres though 😆

ValentinesGranny · 18/04/2025 09:01

This in cerise...it's enormous.

OpenPalm · 18/04/2025 09:04

I love this thread! My only addition is 3 dahlia plants from Asda for £5 which somehow snuck themselves into my trolley. Tame, I know!

thesnailandthewhale · 18/04/2025 09:06

Went in for a cup of tea, came out with an ornamental cherry

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/04/2025 09:07

Not yet, but I will.

It’s the law for the Easter weekend.

Bigteamug · 19/04/2025 10:11

Love hearing about all your impulse buys, they all sound great. I daren't go near a garden centre again for a while as it always ends up costing so much!

I'm really pleased with the impulse buy that inspired this thread, I wasn't sure for a while as it only had a few branches but it's really come on.

I took a picture but edited the clutter and unpainted shed out of the background so it looks odd 😄

'search and rescue table'

Great description, love it. 🙂
