Can anyone recommend a good robust cold frame?

I got a cheap cold frame last year to see how I got on with it. I was very pleased with it but the recent rough weather has made it come apart and I think it may be quite hard to fix. So now I want to get something more durable, probably wooden framed, maybe a bit taller (it has to go under a window so not the more upright/mini greenhouse type of thing).

I got the first one from Thompson &morgan, I think they have some which look ok but the reviews didn't seem very good, particularly around ease of assembly. I don't mind a bit of work putting it together but I don't want something which doesn't have holes in the right places etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

If you can wait til Spring then aldi do something like this every year: [[https://www.aldi.co.uk/gardenline-natural-wooden-cold-frame/p/803910462157800 aldi coldframe]] in about March. I don’t have the coldframe but have the mini greenhouse which is not discernibly lower quality than the versions that cost twice the price from e.g. Waitrose garden.

That's the sort of thing I'm after, but I'm not sure if the existing one will hold up till spring and the cold months are when I want it - it's a bit odd they don't stock it through the winter months!

Can you bodge it (we.g. gaffa tape or some such?) til spring?

I'll probably have resort to that for the next couple of weeks anyway.

Try and find someone who stocks Zest4Life timber products. THey only sell to garden centres etc but the one I got this summer is very substantial and will last years- Arwen and Barra passed it by without even a blink

There are quite a few designs online for making your own, providing you can source the wood ok it will be much sturdier and last much longer than anything you can buy for the equivalent cost.

Thanks all. I don't think I want to try to make my own!

Having just spent some more time browsing, I'm wondering if what I want is actually a 'half growhouse' rather than a coldframe. Something like this:

www.crocus.co.uk/product/_/half-growhouse/classid.2000029071/

It's not got any reviews, but the similar looking one designed to fix to a wall has two good ones.

I need to do some measuring!
