[beaming]

oh god though what if it is full of slugs?

I reckon you'd know because there'd be none of it left.

I'd wash it in the garden if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to fish the slugs out of the sink ewwwww.

foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:00

did you plant them quite early (the lettuces)? none of our stuff is ready yet grrr (but we grow in pots so maybe that's why)

enjoy eating it anyway!

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:14

Erm, I am not sure when we planted them but we have about a hundred, all crammed in together ds got a bit over enthusiastic with the seed packet

I saw one slug when we were out there but dp says there weren't any on the lettuces (I would no way be able to wash it myself as am horrified by slugs)

It is really odd (and nice) to think this was growing in the ground 10 minutes ago and now I am eating it

well done

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:18

oh ds says it is yucky

however is shovelling it into his mouth all the same

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:20

perhaps you overwhelmed the slugs with all the lettuces

we can't move for slugs here. I had to take all the pots off the ground because they were such slug magnets.

It is weird growing stuff and eating it - makes me think a lot more about what goes in and on your food!

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:22

oh god I am not talking to you in case I catch your slugs

we must have something here because a whole sunflower got chomped and it was about 3 foot high

I did read it is when you start picking the lettuces that the slugs come, so perhaps we will wake up tomorrow to find lettuce carnage

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:42

foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:43

Ah Fio bad luck, they live under the floorboards and slide up at night time you see

[pats laminate flooring fondly]

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:49

lol thought I'd got the disclaimer in just in time

I am horrified by the awful things but still have to put up with them ggrrr. They love our laminate but I think that's because they are living under the appliances in the kitchen grrr.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:51

I didn't look, am far too wary for that

the lettuces were all soft and silky compared to supermarket ones

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 24/06/2007 12:51

don't look

awww what else have you got growing?

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:55

Ooh tomatoes (those are dp's job and are not looking that good if you ask me)

carrots, just put in some autumn ones and they are starting to get frondy bits on top

a friend has given us a mini-pumpkin which is doing ok I think

also sweet peas, gladioli, freesias, sunflowers, and some other random bulbed flowers that ds chose and I have forgotten about. No flowers yet but mostly looking good. We are obviously naturals at this lettuce lark, though
